Kesha nearly said ‘I do’ … but got cold feet!
During an interview with Rolling Stone Tuesday, the Take It Off singer revealed that she was at one point secretly engaged, but called it off before she ever had the chance to walk down the aisle. While she didn’t share details about her former beau’s identity, we do know that she’s been linked to writer Brad Ashenfelter for the better part of 10 years, with their romance beginning back in 2014. The two have opted to keep their romance extremely low-key throughout the years, but they were most recently spotted together on a romantic beach stroll in 2021 while vacationing in Hawaii, as Page Six reported at the time.
It’s not exactly clear if the two are still together, but the TiKToK singer did reveal her mystery fiancé is “still a friend.”
Hmm… Well, putting clues together, we do know that Kesha and Brad were in a non-monogamous relationship, so maybe “friend” is just the label they chose to use for one another.

Back in 2019, the Die Young singer spoke about their “free” relationship to Attitude Magazine:
“You know, I’ll call him and be like, ‘I had fun tonight, I met a sweet girl and we had a really good time.’ And he’ll say, ‘Cool, babe, I love you.’ It’s so nice.”
At the time, Kesha gushed about his recognition of her need to “run free,” but noted she “always back to the barn for apples from my boy!”
Part of that need to run free, of course, comes from her desire to explore her sexuality. Just last summer, the Timber songstress opened up in a since-deleted Instagram post about how she views her orientation:
“I’m not gay. I’m not straight. I don’t know what I am. I love people. I love people because we are all our own little consciousness journeys, dancing around the sun how weird and interesting and fun this life is, right? I refuse to be anything, really, except for open to it all”
Really, your guess is as good as ours when it comes to who proposed. However, the 36-year-old did tease Too Far Gone, a song off her upcoming album Gag Order, was written after she and her mystery partner went their separate ways. She told Rolling Stone of the forthcoming record that it feels like she’s “giving birth” to “the most intimate thing.” She explained:
“I really dug into some of my uglier emotions and sides of myself that are less fun. It’s scary being vulnerable. The fact that I have compiled an entire record of these emotions, of anger, of insecurity, of anxiety, of grief, of pain, of regret, all of that is so nerve-racking — but it’s also so healing.”
