The former ‘The Real Housewives of Atlanta’ star reportedly ‘had not told anyone, not even family’ about her marital issues which have been going on for some time due to financial issues.
AceShowbiz -News of Kim Zolciak-Biermann’s divorce must be coming as a huge shock for her friends and family. The reality TV star has reportedly planned to divorce her husband Kroy Biermann for “a long time,” but kept everyone around her in the dark about it.
“She had not told anyone, not even family,” a so-called friend of the Bravolebrity tells PEOPLE shortly after the split reports broke on Monday, May 8. “She didn’t tell anyone, even [her] friends were kept in the dark.”
The friend confirms that a major factor in the split was none other than the pair’s reported ongoing financial issues. “The money has been a huge issue,” the friend says. “The million-dollar tax [payment] was just way too much pressure on them.”
Reiterating the claim, another source adds, “There’s no cheating on either side. The money has a lot to do with the split, but there were other factors.” Stating that the estranged couple remains cordial, the source shares, “He’s been managing [the family] for a long time, so he technically did have a job. They’re not on good terms right now.”
Though the problems have seemingly been going on for some time, the friend stresses that this hasn’t made the divorce news any easier. “They are a very tight-knit family and this isn’t easy for any of the children,” the friend claims.
According to TMZ which first reported the divorce news, Kim lists April 30 as the date of separation between her and the former NFL star. In the court documents, she says their marriage is “irretrievably broken with no hope of reconciliation.”
The 44-year-old is asking for primary physical custody of their minor children and joint legal custody. She also wants spousal support and to legally restore her maiden name.
The divorce news comes on the heels of reports that they owe $1.1 million to the IRS in unpaid taxes, interest and penalties from 2013, 2017 and 2018. They also owe the state of Georgia $15k for unpaid taxes for 2018.
