After it’s announced that Coca-Cola is acquiring full control of the sports drink, the late NBA legend’s widow Vanessa Bryant pens a touching tribute to celebrate his accomplishment.
AceShowbiz – Kobe Bryant was not only a celebrated basketball star, but turns out he was also a savvy businessman. The late NBA legend’s investment in BodyArmor that he made while he was alive has turned a huge profit and now his family is going to benefit from it.
On Monday, November 1, Coca-Cola announced it has acquired full control of the sports drink in a $5.6 billion deal. Kobe acquired 10 percent of BodyArmor for $6 million in 2013 and became a major shareholder. According to Sports Illustrated, the sale of BodyArmor means that his estate would earn approximately “$400 million for its stake in the company.”
“If it wasn’t for Kobe Bryant’s vision and belief, BODYARMOR would not have been able to achieve the success we had,” Mike Repole, founder of BodyArmor, said in a press release. “I couldn’t be more excited to become part of the Coca-Cola family and set our sights on the future.”
Kobe’s wife Vanessa Bryant took to social media to pen a touching tribute to her husband for his accomplishment. “Congratulations Papi!!! This is ‘no pie in the sky’,” she posted along with his promo photos for BodyArmor. “You did it! Always one step ahead. I’m so proud of everything you were able to accomplish. I wish you were here to celebrate. You deserve all the recognition for this. You continue being GREAT. Te amo per siempre.”
The mother of four also credited Kobe’s business partner and colleagues as she concluded, “Congratulations Kobe, Mike Repole & @drinkbodyarmor team @kobebryant, you are the GOAT in everything you put your mind to.”
The timing of the sale announcement at 8:24 A.M. on Monday was specifically meant to honor the former Los Angeles Lakers ace. During his 20-year career as a member of the team, he wore the No. 8 and 24 jerseys.
