Brooklyn-based MSCHF managed to take over the world of street style and hypebeasts when it announced that it crafted a pair of faux-Birkenstocks made with leather sourced from Hermès Birkin bags. Well, the queen of hype herself, Kylie Jenner, managed to snag a pair of the viral kicks, sharing a snapshot of the black sandals on her Instagram Story.
"Thanks @mschf," she wrote alongside the photo, which could mean that she got the shoes as a gift from the brand.
Vogue notes that the shoes are a Frankenstein-like sandal that takes the trademark cork-and-leather sole from a pair of Birkenstock Arizonas and melds them with straps made from a Birkin. Jenner's snapshot shows the sandals alongside a silk scarf from the storied French luxury brand and a custom shoebox that riffs on the house's signature orange color. The magazine also adds that the shoes range from $34,000 to $76,000, depending on leathers and finishing details.
According to the New York Times, MSCHF has made about 10 pairs of the Birkin Birkenstock in total. Rapper Future and singer Kehlani also have pairs, along with an unnamed collector, so that means at least four pairs are already spoken for.
MSCHF shared a look at its process on Instagram, though this could be the stuff of nightmares for anyone looking to score one of the notoriously scarce bags from Hermès.
Though Jenner has never even been photographed wearing a pair of Birks, her sister, Kendall, is a big fan. As for the other part of the equation, Kylie's Birkin collection is the stuff of legend. People notes that she has "at least 20 Hermès Kelly and Birkin bags."
