Popstar and award-winning actress Lady Gaga, 35, has claimed that she became pregnant after being raped by a music producer at the age of 19. The star opened up on Prince Harry and Oprah Winfrey’s new Apple TV+ mental health docuseries, The Me You Can’t See.
Lady Gaga – whose real name is Stefanie Germanotta – recalled how she was sexually assaulted by a music producer when she was 19.
The A Star Is Born actress went on to detail how she was then “dropped off pregnant” on a street corner.
Speaking on the new series, the star said: “I was 19 years old, and I was working in the business, and a producer said to me, ‘Take your clothes off.’
“And I said no. And I left, and they told me they were going to burn all of my music,” she said.
The singer went on to detail the physical effects that the alleged assault had on her.
“And they didn’t stop. They didn’t stop asking me, and I just froze and I don’t even remember,” she said.
Gaga has not mentioned the producer’s name for fear of seeing him again.
The actress recalled how the event led to her being diagnosed with PTSD and how traumatic memories came flooding back when she saw a psychiatrist.
She said: “Years later I went to a hospital and they brought a psychiatrist in and I said, ‘bring me a real doctor, why is there a psych here I can’t feel my body?’
“First I felt full-on pain, then I went numb.”
The star continued: “And then I was sick for weeks and weeks and weeks and weeks after, and I realised that it was the same pain that I felt when the person who raped me dropped me off pregnant on a corner.
“At my parents’ house because I was vomiting and sick. Because I’d been being abused. I was locked away in a studio for months.”
Following the assault, the star revealed that she was changed as a person but still faces triggers even today
Gaga said: “I had a total psychotic break, and for a couple years, I was not the same girl. The way that I feel when I feel pain was how I felt after I was raped.”
She went on: “I’ve had so many MRIs and scans where they find nothing. But your body remembers.
“I didn’t know how to even think about it, I didn’t know how to accept it, I didn’t know how to not blame myself or think it was my fault.
“It was something that really changed my life. It changed who I was completely,” she said.
As well as being diagnosed with post traumatic stress disorder, the singer was also told she has fibromyalgia, which causes extreme tiredness and pain.
She went on to explain that the pain in her body “mimicked” the sickness she felt after being raped.
However, the star went on to tell Oprah that antipsychotic medication has helped her “tremendously” in her recovery.
