Lady Susan Hussey reportedly warned thatPrince Harry andMeghan Markle’s relationship would “all end in tears” after being asked to help the Duchess of Sussex settle into royal life, an expert has claimed.
Lady Susan, 83, served the late Queen Elizabeth II for over 60 years thoughresigned from the royal household earlier this week and apologised after she questioned British-born charity boss, Ngozi Fulani, about where she “really came from”.
But besides serving the late monarch, during her time in the royal household Lady Susan was reportedly asked by Buckingham Palace to help Meghan, 41, adjust to her new life both before and after marrying Prince Harry.
According to royal expert Tom Bower, the godmother ofPrince William doubted the couple’s relationship and claimed that their marriage would “all end in tears” before they’d even tied the knot.
In his biography Revenge: Meghan, Harry and the War Between the Windsors, which was released in July, the author alleged that Lady Susan disapproved of Harry and Meghan’s status as a couple.
“While discussing the possibility that Meghan might become associated with the National Theatre after the wedding, Hussey became unexpectedly serious about the couple's future. 'That will all end in tears,' warned Hussey. 'Mark my words',” he wrote.
The royal expert also claimed that Meghan was “insistent” that the Palace wasn’t going to alter her behaviour or thoughts, according tothe Daily Mail.
The re-emergence of the author's comments come after the chief executive of Sistah Space took to social media where she called her conversation with Lady Susan a “violation”.
While attending an engagement at Buckingham Palace relating to violence against women on Tuesday, she said that a household member challenged her when she said her charity was based in Hackney, saying: “No, what part of Africa are YOU from?”
Buckingham Palace responded by announcing that a member of the household had resigned and apologised for the “unacceptable and deeply regrettable comments."
Meanwhile,Prince William’s representative said "racism has no place in our society" and said the comments made were "unacceptable".
Speaking on GB News about the incident, royal expert Jennie Bond called it a “disaster” for the royal family.
“I've always found her to be courteous and to be kind. But clearly this is a disaster,” she said. “This was a showcase event at Buckingham Palace about violence against women, and a woman who was invited to be there to celebrate the work that she has done has been made to feel violated.”
