Lesley Joseph, 76, has admitted there’s one thing standing in the way of Birds of a Feather making a comeback after the show came to an end in December 2020, following the one-off Christmas special. The actress, who played Dorien Green in the iconic sitcom alongside co-stars Linda Robson and Pauline Quirke,

She opened up about the potential return on Lorraine last month, where they discussed the hugely popular series.

The show originally aired on BBC One between 1988 and 1998 before returning in 2014 on ITV and ran up until Christmas 2020.

Lorraine began: “You did a brilliant Christmas special for Birds of a Feather – that’s always something hopefully that could come back.

“I would love it to come back!” Lesley exclaimed.

“The only thing about doing Dorien is you do have to keep your weight very much in control,” she sighed.

Lorraine interjected: “To fit in all of those costumes!”

Lesley went on: “I’ve kept all her [Dorien] clothes… or nearly all.

“They were all wonderful designer clothes – had to buy them – but some of them are so thin I can’t quite get in them again!

“But I’d love to,” she smiled.

Lorraine agreed: “I hope you do, I really do!”

It’s not the first time Lesley has spoken out about her character and her strict diet.

Speaking at the RHS Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival Preview Day, she explained it’s “not easy” playing Dorien as she has to be “very thin”.

And it’s difficult to lose weight “especially when you’ve had Victoria sponge the whole of lockdown”.

“As Dorien, you could never eat that!” Lesley laughed.

“But it’s coming off now. I’ve just lost 10 pounds.”

According to the actress, she had to drop a dress size and shrink down to a size six to get into character.

But Lesley admitted that while the sitcom’s comeback would be great, she “needs to do other things”

“I don’t think it’s going to happen again to be absolutely honest,” she shrugged.

“I think after 32 years, I need to do other things.”

“I have lived with her for 32 years but she’s now rested… rested with her heels!”
