Lila Moss makes a provocative style statement in dress with bizarre phallic detail as she makes her Vogue debut – but she’s got a long way to go to match her ‘old and boring’ supermodel mother Kate’s 43 appearances on the cover
- The model, 19, followed in her supermodel mother’s footsteps as she landed the cover of British Vogue
- Alongside a striking photoshoot Lila opened up about her relationship with her mother Kate, 48
- Lila said she was shocked that her schoolfriends knew who her mum was as she found her ‘old and boring’
- She went on to add that while she steals her mum’s Chanel bags, Kate often steals her tracksuits
Lila Moss has taken the next step on a path well trodden by her supermodel mother by landing her first ever cover shoot for global fashion bible Vogue.
The 19-year-old daughter of catwalk veteran Kate Moss, 48, makes a provocative style statement from the equally provocative British heritage brand Loewe in a vibrant shoot, conducted by photographer Steven Meisel.
Wearing a translucent silk and resin top with vaguely phallic overtones, Lila’s unconventional debut shoot suggests she’s keen to go her own way as a model, rather than emulate her mother.
Inspired by racy Netflix period drama Bridgerton, her liberal make-up is carefully selected from a shimmering colour palette, with cosmetics from Dior, Loewe, and Prada used to complement her naturally pretty features.

The young model was in familiar territory during the shoot, with Miesel a regular collaborator with Kate, who has herself covered Vogue on 43 occasions.
Speaking about growing up in the spotlight, Lila confessed that she was shocked by the attention surrounding her mother, admitting that she was surprised her friends even knew who she was.
She explained: ‘I went to secondary school and everyone was like, “Oh, your mum’s Kate Moss!” You don’t really have a filter when you’re that young and I was like, ”How do you know who she is? She’s old! She’s old and boring!”‘
Adding more about her relationship with her mother, Lila told the fashion bible: ‘I was quite protective over my mum.
‘All my mum’s friends say that I was so scary as a child. I was quite serious. But also, I would always copy her. She would always have her head down and not look at the camera, so I’d always put my head down and not look at the camera. I still do it.’

Yet Lila revealed that with time she’s come to realise just how influential her mother is in the fashion world, saying: ‘In the last three or four years, I’ve realised that her style is actually really cool. I’m having to admit it now.’
The teenager went on to note that while she steals Kate’s Saint Laurent coats and her Chanel 2.55 bags, her supermodel mother often swipes her Adidas tracksuits.
Learnt from the best: Lila was in familiar territory during the shoot, with Miesel a regular collaborator with Kate, who has covered Vogue on 43 occasions (pictured in 1995)
Lila explained: ‘She doesn’t have a good trackies selection. She only has pyjamas. She probably would hate me saying that. She doesn’t want anyone to know she wears trackies!’
Lila nabbed her first modelling gig at the age of 15 – nabbing a campaign for Marc Jacobs Beauty – at just a year older than her mother was when she entered the business.
Yet despite her mother being one of the famous models in the business, Lila revealed that Kate was keen to deter her from following in her footsteps.
‘My mum always put me off [modelling],’ Lila said. ‘She was always like, “If you wanna do it, you can, but I wouldn’t recommend it.”‘
Despite her mother’s apprehension, Lila insisted that she doesn’t feel anxious at the thought that modelling success could bring the fame from which her parents tried to protect her.
She mused: ‘Not really. I’ve seen it first-hand, so I’m much more able to cope with it. I’ve had to say no to people. But I’m always nice!’
Lila’s father is journalist Jefferson Hack, with whom Kate was in a relationship in the early Noughties.
Jefferson and Kate – who dated from 2001 to 2004 with Lila being born in 2002 – have an amicable relationship and would ensure their daughter spent a regular amount of time with each of them in her childhood.
Seeing double: While Lila still has a good relationship with both parents, she is often seen out with mum Kate as she is signed to her modelling agency (pictured in 2019)
A chip off the old catwalk! Lila has followed in her supermodel mother’s footsteps after landing her first modelling gig aged 15 – just a year older than Kate was when she started – and the pair are now a force in the modelling world (pictured at the Versace special event during Milan Fashion Week in September)
Iconic: Mum Kate has a long professional association with the fashion magazine having featured in dozens of cover shoots
While Lila still has a good relationship with both parents, she is often seen out with mum Kate as she is signed to her modelling agency.
Lila is also now the director of her own company, Grace Grove Ltd, a move that coincides with supermodel mum Kate winding down three of her firms.
The name of the company is a nod to The Grove, the family home in North London, which Kate sold recently.
The beginning: Kate has been on a whopping 43 covers of Vogue, with former British Vogue editor Alexandra Shulman -who put Kate on her first Vogue cover in 1993 [pictured] – singing the model’s praises in her column for The Mail On Sunday in 2020
Career: ‘It has been an extraordinary trip for the Croydon schoolgirl scouted by Storm Models back in 1988 when she was just 14. And one which undeniably has made her one of most famous – and, at the same time, enigmatic – women in the world’

She noted: ‘It has been an extraordinary trip for the Croydon schoolgirl scouted by Storm Models back in 1988 when she was just 14. And one which undeniably has made her one of most famous – and, at the same time, enigmatic – women in the world.
‘It was March 1993 when I first put her, aged 19, on the cover of British Vogue. By that time she was known to fashion insiders and had already been on the cover of The Face magazine, but this, her first Vogue cover, was an initiation into the big time.
‘There are moments when fashion pivots on its axis – and this was one of them.’
While fashion is Kate’s main focus, her family comes first with the model previously speaking about her love for her family in Harper’s Bazaar.
She said: ‘Being in love makes me feel beautiful. My daughter Lila inspires me to be the best person I can be.
‘My favourite moments are when all the family are sitting down together having lunch on a sunny Sunday afternoon in the country.’
