Little Mix singer Jade Thirlwall has revealed the shock reason that the band changed their name.
The girl band were formed on The X Factor over 10 years ago back in 2011, and when Jade, Perrie Edwards, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and former member Jesy Nelson were first put into the group they were initially called Rhythmix.
And now Jade, 29, has revealed that it was thanks to her now-boyfriend, Rizzle Kicks’ Jordan Stephens, that the girls changed their name in the first place.
In a TikTok video, Jade can be seen talking alongside Leigh-Anne and Perrie after the trio wrapped their recent Confetti tour around the UK.
Jade says into the microphone: “Shout out to my boyfriend who made us actually change our name in 2011.”
Both Leigh-Anne and Perrie break into shock, with Leigh-Anne shouting: “Oh my God!”
“It was his fault, yeah,” adds Jade. “Oh my God, love that,” says Perrie.
The caption of the video goes on to explain that Little Mix were originally called Rhythmix, but hip hop duo Rizzle Kicks – made up of Jade’s boyfriend Jordan and Harley Alexander-Sule – pointed out that the band’s name was the same as a charity’s.
At the time, the foursome – who were mentored by N-Dubz singer Tulisa Contostavlos – said of the change: “We decided to change our name to Little Mix as we do not want to cause problems for the charity.”
"We're happy that this has now been resolved. We're the same girls as we've always been and we want to thank all of our fans for their continued support.
"We came up with some ideas for our new name which we discussed with Tulisa and she had some ideas too. We all agreed on Little Mix as it just felt right."
Jade has been dating rapper Jordan since the summer of 2020.
Opening up about meeting Jordan, the star the Metro : “I ended up meeting someone in lockdown which is strange. I quite enjoyed doing it that way.
