Lizzo joins list of stars who have been sued by ex-employees as she hits back at ‘unbelievable and outrageous’ sexual harassment claims
Lizzo has been subject to a string of accusations including weight-shaming, sexual harassment and creating a ‘hostile work environment’.
This comes following news that the artist is being sued by three of her former stage dancers – Crystal Williams, Noelle Rodriguez and Arianna Davis – in the Los Angeles County Superior Court.
They were swiftly followed by another dancer, Courtney Hollinquest, and a director, Sophia Nahli Allison, raising similar accusations, but the singer has called them ‘unbelievable and outrageous.’
The Juice singer joins a long list of celebrities to be sued by their former employees, featuring singers, actors, and models, and she is not even the fist to face legal action brought by backup dancers.

Mariah Carey
Carey was sued for emotional distress in 2019 by a nanny who worked for the star in the previous two years.
Maria Burgues claimed she was fired for complaining about unpaid overtime and working conditions while looking after twins Moroccan and Munroe.
The nanny also alleged that said she was subjected to abuse by the singer’s bodyguard and wasn’t paid what she was owed after being fired.
However, the case was dismissed.

Kim Kardashian
In May 2021, Kim Kardashian was sued by a group of seven former gardeners and maintenance staff claiming that they had not been properly paid.
The plaintiffs added that they were not paid for overtime, and not given sufficient breaks for meals, when working at Kim’s $60 million Hidden Hills mansion.
However, the megastar’s representatives claimed that ‘these workers were hired and paid through a third-party vendor hired by Kim to provide ongoing services.
‘Kim is not party to the agreement made between the vendor and their workers, therefore she is not responsible for how the vendor manages their business and the agreements they have made directly with their staff.’
Kim is yet to comment publicly on the case, which has not reached its conclusion.

Chris Brown
In an ongoing lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court, one of Chris Brown’s former backup dancers said that fake blood was poured over her by a makeup artist in 2017.
The dancer claims that both of her eyes were injured by the incident which allegedly took place during the shoot for a music video.
TMZ first reported the lawsuit, filed against Brown and Majestic Hour Productions, in 2019.
At the time of the reports Brown made no comment on the case, and MailOnline have contacted his management again.

Jennifer Lopez
In 2013, Jennifer Lopez settled a lawsuit with a former driver who sued her for unpaid wages after he was fired, according to E! News.
After Hakob Manoukian filed his lawsuit for wrongful termination and breach of contract, Lopez hit back with a $20m countersuit claiming she was being extorted and blackmailed by the former employee.
However, her suit was dismissed by Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Joseph Kalin in December 2012.

Cher
Cher was sued for $10m in 2014 by three backup dancers who claimed they were fired from her tour for the color of their skin.
The lawsuit alleged Cher told her choreographer to hire a white performer rather than a Black dancer because there was already ‘too much color onstage,’ and the dancers also claimed they were fired for reporting an assault by another colleague, Billboard reported.
The singer’s representatives immediately refuted the claims, and the lawsuit was eventually dismissed in 2015.

Britney Spears
Britney Spears was sued by a dancer for battery and negligence in 2014.
The former employee claimed the Toxic singer broke her nose during a rehearsal for the Work B**** music video, before refusing to pay her medical bills.
According to NBC, people nearby ‘heard a cracking sound’ when Spears twirled into the nose of the dancer, who claimed she was left with a ‘permanent disability.’
The case was later settled.
Spears was also sued by her former bodyguard, who claimed the singer sexually harassed him in an ABC News report from 2010.
That lawsuit was settled in 2012, but the terms of the arrangement between the singer and Fernando Flores will remain confidential.

Sharon Stone
Basic Instinct star Sharon Stone is another celebrity who was sued by an employee.
The actress’ former nanny – Erlinda Elemen – claimed in 2012 that Stone had violated labor laws and made racist remarks about the her Filipino heritage.
According to the lawsuit, Stone also ‘criticised Plaintiff for frequently attending church’ and ordered her not to speak to her three children – Roan, Laird and Quinn – because she did not want them to talk like her.
However, the case was settled in June 2013.
