Love Island bosses confirm iconic villa axe with summer series set in new mansion

Love Island is set to be moving to a new prime location, bosses have confirmed after speculation emerged of set changes to the hit dating show for the upcoming series.

Along with a host of fresh faced contestants, the ITV2 reality dating show will return this summer with a completely different house after filming at the same Majorcan property for the last five years.

Managing director of ITV’s media and entrainment, Kevin Lygo, has said Love Island is moving to a “marvellous” new mansion in what appears to be a bid to revitalise the show, which will enter its eight series in a few month’s time.

“We didn't own [the last property]. We rented it and we are choosing a new house for this summer so that is all secrecy,” Mr Lygo told PA Media.

“It is going to be marvellous. Yes, it is going to be in Mallorca. It is going to be a great one [series].”

The new mansion the contestants will be living at over the summer weeks will still include the iconic fire pit and swimming pool for those much-needed 'chats', however more details are yet to be revealed on what else will come with the property.

Love Island up until now had been filmed at Sant Llorenç des Cardassar in the north east of Majorca, with season one and two of the hit show having taken place in a property south of the Santanyí region.

The Sun reported that the new mansion will most likely be located at the “foothills of mountains, by a lake or to the coast”, in a change that is predicted to bring an exciting, refreshing element to the next series.

“ITV bosses think this is the right moment to refresh this element of the show, just as they did in series three back in 2017,” an insider told the publication.

“Bosses are conscious of the fact that this is also an opportunity to consider all the new elements they could introduce to enhance the show even further.

“For fans of Love Island this is huge news and they'll be eager to see what the new villa looks like and how much it could change the show.”

Presenter Laura Whitmore – who replaced the late Caroline Flack as host of the show in 2020 – is said to be in talks to return for the summer series with negotiations reportedly now beginning.
