Love Island reveals first star of new series as beautician Ruchee Gurung

The first Love Island singleton joining the villa this summer has been unveiled as 24-year-old Ruchee Gurung.

Ahead of her entry into the villa, Ruchee said: "I’m single and looking for love, and it’s the perfect opportunity for me to find someone. I’m a relationship kind of girl, but so far it’s not worked out for me. So I’m looking forward to hopefully finding the right person in the Villa.

And sharing her "elevator pitch" as to why someone should want to date her, she continued: "I’m really caring, when I’m with someone I’m all about them. I’m also really loyal and love doing nice things for the people that are special to me. My love language is gift giving, so I’m a real giver when it comes to relations."

Asked what her "ick" is, Ruchee replied: "Guys with no ambition. I also get the ick if I see a guy wearing white jeans and red trainers. Another one is super skinny jeans when they look like leggings. Fashion is such an important thing for me. If I go on a date and the guy isn’t wearing something I like, I’m going home."

Announcing Ruchee as the first islander, the show's social media channels shared a photo of the beautician sporting a stylish and bejewelled green bikini, which they captioned: "Beautician Ruchee is bringing glam and big energy to the Villa [lips emoji] #LoveIsland"

And the new islander is already proving popular with fans, with one viewer commenting: "QUEENIE, finally some asian representation [heart emoji."

"Starting off strong!" added another, while a third wrote: "She is stunning [heart-eye emoji]."

Ruchee will be joined in the villa by semi-professional footballer Tyrique Hyde, who is best pals with former islander Toby Aromolaran.

Speaking ahead of his arrival, Tyrique, 24, discussed what he'll be bringing the series, as he said: "I’ll bring vibes, confidence, good energy and honesty. I don’t sit on the fence, if I have an opinion I will speak up. I’m also not afraid to go after what I want."

Asked what things he wants his fellow islanders to know about him, he replied: "I’m deaf in my right ear. I’ve got a tattoo next to my left one that symbolises strength and power in my good one."

And discussing his ties to ex-island Toby, he explained: "Toby Aromolaran is one of my best friends, we grew up together and were in the same class at school."

This year's Love Island will once again give viewers the chance to decide which Islanders couple up in the opening episode, with voting for this opening Thursday (June 1) morning at 8am.

Fans can vote for free via the Love Island App but will only have until Friday evening at 9pm to make their choices. The first episode will then hit screens on Monday June 5.

Like in previous series of Love Island, with the exception of the two winter series which took place in South Africa, this year's singletons will be jetting off to Mallorca.

Exclusive pictures obtained by OK! earlier this month showed how the villa is currently a hive of activity as workers rush to get it ready in time and ensure everything is perfect for new singles arriving.

Love Island starts Monday 5th June at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX.
