Coco Lodge and Andrew Le Page certainly caused a stir in this series of Love Island. And since landing back home, the Casa Amor bombshell has opened up about the struggles she has faced, stating that ITV ‘should have prepared me more’ after she experienced trolling.
Opening up exclusively to OK! at the Reality TV Awards, Coco said: “They give you a press chat where they tell you what’s been in the press about you but they don’t tell you about the trolling. I got told not to look on Twitter but I feel like I should have been slightly more prepared.”
The shot girl from Surrey has received numerous nasty comments following her exit from the villa, in particular about her appearance.
“I should have been warned about the amount of comments. I was in a shopping centre and these girls came up to me and asked me if I was ok and started showing me everything. I was like ‘woah, ok, everyone thinks I’m ugly!’ [ITV] have a focus on mental health but I don’t know if they just didn’t want to break it to me about the trolling. I don’t know.”
Coco, 27, coupled up with Andrew, also 27, while in Casa Amor. During their week together the pair shared some intimate moments, kissing and touching under the covers.
In what has become an infamous line from the series, Andrew reportedly “licked [Coco’s] t*t or whatever”, but as soon as Andrew’s original partner, Tasha Ghouri returned to the villa, Coco was old news and was unceremoniously dumped from the villa.
Talking on Murad Merali’s podcast, Coco said the trolling was unexpected but it hurt more because it was about her appearance. “I had a hard time in [the villa] after Casa, not all the girls were especially welcoming and there were comments made by some of the boys that I am a four out of ten and Paige [Thorne] is a 12.”
Opening up on Will Njobvu’s podcast ‘Reality with Will Njobvu’s’ Coco also said that “when someone is constantly questioning your appearance and you see some vile things written about how you look, and my nose and stuff you question yourself.”
However, the former islander has promised that she isn’t going to be bullied into cosmetic surgery. “I’m not going to change anything. I promise because I have had companies, cosmetic companies reach out to me like ‘I’ll give you free treatments’ and I’m like I don’t want them, like this is my face.”
ITV's publicly available duty of care states that:
– Training is provided for all Islanders on the impacts of social media and handling potential negativity- Cast are told they should consider all the potential implications of taking part in the show and work through this decision-making process in consultation with their family and those closest to them, to ensure they feel it is right for them.
– A welfare team solely dedicated to the Islanders is available both during the show and after.
– Bespoke training on dealing with social media and advice on finance and adjusting to life back home is given
