Love Island's George Fensom is the first Islander of the new series to be dumped from the villa.
The 24-year-old business development executive left the show following the first recoupling of the series, which took place during Friday’s episode.
After learning the news, he embraced his fellow Islanders, later telling them: “On a serious note, I’ll never forget any of you. A s**t decision was gonna have to be made regardless – one of us was going to go anyway. It’s just one of them situations where it was unfortunately me.”
He later added: “Leaving the villa alone tonight obviously isn’t how I wanted my experience to end to be honest with you – I just wanted to continue to drop loose game. I’m sure there’ll be someone out there for me, but it was just wasn’t in the villa.”
George described the Love Island experience as “definitely the best thing I’ve ever done”.
“I’ve loved every minute of it. It’s been so much fun and the most amazing experience from start to finish,” he said.
“The experiences I’ve had, the people I’ve met and the lifelong friendships that I’ve formed have made my villa experience very worthwhile.”
On Friday’s episode, Mitchel Taylor received a text announcing the news that the female islanders would have the power to chose who they want to be partnered with.
The text read: “Islanders, tonight there will be a recoupling. The girls will each choose which boy they want to recouple with. “The boy not picked to be in a couple will be dumped from the island immediately. #LeaveItToTheLadies #BroBye.”
First to pick was Ella Thomas, who coupled up with Tyrique Hyde, before Gurung chose Andre Fertado. Catherine Agbaje was the third girl to pick, with her choosing Zachariah Noble, who called her speech about him "lovely".
Molly Marsh was next to pick, with everyone unsure who she was going to couple up with. However, she ended up sticking with her current parter, Mitchel Taylor, much to his relief. Next, Jess Harding picked new bombshell Sammy Root, which left George and Mehdi as the last two boys standing at the fire pit.
Whitney Adebayo had been getting to know both guys, but she picked Mehdi Edno, meaning George was dumped.
As he left the villa, George said: "I’ve had an absolute blast, dropping loose game and making everyone laugh. The experiences I’ve had, the people I’ve met and the lifelong friendships that I’ve formed have made my Villa experience very worthwhile. I wish everyone in there the best Villa experience and I can’t wait to see them all on the outside."
Talking about how the public chose to couple him up with Jess at the start, George said: "Jess is an absolutely lovely girl but it felt more like a friendship. Jess and I were always cracking banter and having the best time. I just don’t think there was anything there romantically, but that’s completely fair enough. If it was up to me to choose on day 1, I would’ve definitely gone for Molly, she’s such a good-looking girl."
Had he not been sent home, George reckons something could have happened with Whitney, as he said: "For sure, I had a conversation with Whitney, she’s a really bubbly, energetic person that just fills the room with laughter. If I had a feww more days you never know what could have happened!"
Earlier in the episode, before the recoupling, Mitchel took a step back from pursuing Molly Marsh.
Mitchel told Molly that he will “sit back” and let her explore her options after new bombshell Sammy Root let him know that he wants to pursue her.
After going on dates with Molly, Jess Harding and Ella Thomas, Sammy confessed to Mitchel that Molly was his favourite person to date.
Telling Mitchel about his feelings, Sammy admits: “I can’t lie, Molly was my favourite. I want to get to know her.
“At the end of the day, she said to me she was open to getting to know other people as well.”
Mitchel says: “Do your thing, get to know the girls. Let the best man win.”
After hearing that Molly is keen on getting to know other people, Mitchel pulled her for a chat later that night and said: “I don’t want to give you the energy I think you deserve when you’re not going to give me any reciprocation back. I’d rather let you do your thing.”
He added: “No one compares to you right now. I’m still going to adore you, I still think you’re great…I don’t want to cuddle and all that stuff anymore, I want to sit back and I want you to explore your options.”
Later that evening, Molly got chatting to Sammy, as she told him that she might know him from somewhere else.
She said: “You either remind me of someone or I’ve met you and I don’t know how.”
Sammy responded: “You’ve definitely been thinking about this all night! I hope it’s a good thing…”
Molly said that it is a “good thing” because she feels like she knows him already, to which Sammy joked: “Maybe we met in a past life, when you were a seagull and I was a chip.”
Love Island airs on weeknights and Sundays at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX.
