Hey everyone, it’s Shaughna Phillips here with another take on all the goings on in the Love Island villa, and what a wild week it’s been.
Speaking of wild, let’s discuss the heart rate challenge! The girls absolutely smashed it. I think they were the sexiest it’s ever been. I must admit, I enjoy watching the girls more than the boys. Unless it’s Magic Mike, seeing boys trying to be sexy makes me want to rip my eyeballs out.
I absolutely hated doing the heart rate challenge when I was in the villa. I think I had a glass of Prosecco beforehand, but I was stone cold sober. You can’t force sexy – you either have it or you haven’t. I haven’t, but I had to pretend I had, and it was so uncomfortable.
There’s music playing while you’re dancing, but you can’t choose which song you want. I had Starships by Nicki Minaj, which is not a sexy song at all! You can’t choose your outfit either. Trust me, if I had the choice I would have gone out dressed as a nun. I had a high thigh bodysuit on, so I used boob tape on my vagina, as I was scared that there was a very high chance I could flash everyone!
You already feel embarrassed about doing it, and then to find out the boy you’re coupled up with had a higher heart rate for someone else makes it worse. But I don’t know whether I actually believe the heart rate results, as it definitely creates drama.
For example, when Andrew Le Page's heart rate was the highest for Danica Taylor instead of Tasha Ghouri, after she pulled him for a chat just hours before. And then Jacques O'Neill and Gemma Owen got each other.
I felt sorry for Paige Thorne when Jacques was explaining why his heart rate was high watching Gemma, and told her that it brought back flashbacks from when they were together. What the hell?! I wanted to dig a hole, crawl into it and bury myself alive hearing him say that! Paige was probably thinking it herself, but don’t say it out loud, Jacques! I think he had word vomit and was just trying to be honest, but it wasn’t great.
I also found the drama entertaining after Dami Hope showed off his “mind-reading skills”. Don’t get me wrong, they all agreed to keep whatever was said within the group, and then Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu immediately got up and told Jacuqes and Paige what Gemma said about Luca Bish.
Should she have done that? No. Am I glad she did it? Yes! It was good viewing. But to be fair to her, she only repeated what was said, and then it turned into Chinese whispers.
On Wednesday, we also saw the girls picking the boys in another recoupling. I’ve said it before, but I felt so bad for Danica. The boys have been so brutal towards her, and every time she chooses someone, it seems to cause uproar.
I do get that it’s a bit awkward that she chose Jay Younger, who I thought made it quite clear he was interested in Antigoni Buxton, but why would you choose someone you don’t fancy just to help someone else out? She didn’t have a romantic connection with Charlie Radnedge, and that’s fair enough.
As much as I love Paige, I didn’t really like the way she handled the situation. I thought it was quite rude when she asked Danica and Indiyah Polack not to come over and join the chat. It would have been better to invite Danica into the situation and for them all to have the conversation together.
Also, I’m absolutely loving that Ekin-Su and Davide Sanclimenti are back as a couple now. I’m obsessed with them! They’re the perfect match. I think Davide still seems upset about how she treated him, and he has every right to be. So I wouldn’t be surprised if his head gets turned, just for a bit of revenge.
And that could happen very soon, as it seems like Casa Amor is imminent, with reports it’s returning on Monday 4 July. I’ll be honest, I don’t feel that emotionally invested in any of the couples. I like them all – I think this year’s cast is absolute perfection – but I wouldn’t be surprised if any of their heads turn.
I still think Tasha’s head could. I think the only reason she didn’t pursue Charlie is because he didn’t choose her, and then because of all the stick she got from the other boys. Once she’s away from Andrew and there’s new boys, it could be a different story.
I would like Gemma’s head to turn in Casa Amor and for her to couple up with someone else because I think Luca needs humbling. I’m still angry about the way he treated Danica when she first entered. I can’t let it go! Imagine Luca’s face. It would make good television. Bring it on…
Love Island continues every night at 9pm on ITV2.
