Love Island’s Montana Brown defends Barbados trip and denies breaking lockdown

Montana Brown has defended her current trip to Barbados following speculation she had broken lockdown rules.

The Love Island star has been sharing photos of her tropical holiday for several weeks, which led fans to speculate whether she flew out after the latest national lockdown was announced in England.

However, Montana has stated that she’s not broken any rules as she flew out to Barbados before Christmas.

Speaking to The Sun On Sunday, she explained: ‘I travelled before there was a national lockdown to see my family, so it was legal for me to travel. I spent Christmas out here.

‘I’ve been here ever since and haven’t moved. I actually haven’t dealt with that much hate online because of that.’

Montana, 24, then weighed in on other influencers and celebrities who have flown over to Dubai and other countries in recent weeks for so-called ‘work’ trips. However, they’ve often been pictured hanging out on the beach and partying, which critics argue is not essential work.

‘I do think it is insensitive and irresponsible to put on social media that you’re partying or with a large group of people, as it’s rightly seen as wrong by people who are losing family members and losing their businesses,’ Montana said.

‘A lot of people’s worlds are crashing down around them. We have a social responsibility to stick to the guidelines in some capacity and just be aware that other people are going through hell.’

Reality stars like Chloe Ferry, Georgia Harrison and Laura Anderson are among those who have been criticised for travelling during the coronavirus pandemic and flaunting their trips on social media while the majority of their fans are stuck at home.

Home Secretary Priti Patel has also took aim at influencers going on holiday during the pandemic with a blistering speech in the House of Commons last month.

Former Love Island star Olivia Attwood was widely praised for her scathing critique of celebrities jetting off to the sunshine and claiming it’s hard work.

She said in an Instagram video: ‘I don’t go, “Oh me and [my boyfriend] Brad have had the most amazing week in Portugal, but don’t worry, I was flat out working”, you just sound so stupid.

‘On top of that you have got the ones going, “Oh we are all in this together, this is our struggle,” no, it’s not. You are on holiday and to be fair I don’t f**king blame you.’

Katie Price also called out travelling influencers and advised them to ‘get real jobs’.
