Lucy Alexander, 51, has sent a touching message of support to Martin Roberts, 58, after he shared that he had been taken to hospital as he suffered a flare-up from a “worrying” condition. The Homes Under The Hammer host shared his cellulitis had returned and spread to his other leg yesterday as he spoke out on Twitter.
The star had attempted to purchase some antibiotics to take down the swelling from a pharmacy, however they had a “system error” and therefore he had no choice but to go to hospital.
Martin typed: “Bl**dy cellulitis has flared up again and it’s spread to my other leg too.
“The chemists wouldn’t give me the antibiotics I’d been prescribed, despite seeing my leg, due to a ‘system error’ and no recognition of how serious this is.
“Thank you so much @LloydsPharmacy so A&E for me,” he added sarcastically.
Cellulitis is an infection caused by bacteria getting into the deeper layers of the skin.
The main symptom of cellulitis is a red, painful, swollen area of skin such as Martin is experiencing.
Cellulitis usually is treated with antibiotics but can be serious if it’s not treated quickly.
Once he arrived at the hospital Martin shared he had a cannula placed in his arm that had started to leak with blood.
Making light of the situation, the 58-year-old typed: “So there seems to be a leak from the cannula. It’s a full moon tonight. Should I be worried??”
In response to the graphic photo, a concerned Lucy replied: “Hope you are ok Matey. Xx.”
The star had admitted he was “worried” about the condition possibly developing into sepsis, which happens when the body has a life-threatening reaction to an infection.
Lucy and Martin are longtime friends and former colleagues who worked together on BBC’s Homes Under The Hammer for 13 years.
The mum of two stepped down from the show back in 2016 but has not ruled out a return to the show.
She told PA in an interview last year: “I still see Martin (Roberts) and we still go out and have a drink and have a laugh and talk about the good old days.
“Everybody asks me: ‘Am I going to go back?’ But I’m still on it! Really [TV channel] are showing every episode of Homes Under The Hammer every day, so I’m still on the screen and I haven’t done it in about five years – but I’m on it constantly.
“But it was a huge, huge, huge part of my life that I loved so much and still love and never say never.”
Lucy went on to say that lockdown restrictions had offered her a chance to relax.
She added: “I really think, for me, I’m a really manic person – filming, working, TV jobs, voice-overs, up and down from London.
“Knowing there’s no rush to do anything, it’s almost like somebody has just gone… like a magic wand, ‘And relax, and breathe’ and I feel no stress, no pressure.”
