Lucy Mecklenburgh has shared her thoughts with fans after undergoing a sweep ahead of welcoming her second child.
The former TOWIE star, 30, who is already a mum to Roman, 2, is currently in the final days of her pregnancy with partner Ryan Thomas.
The family are understandably excited to meet the new addition, but the couple’s baby girl has decided she’d much rather be fashionably late, with Lucy now already past her due date.
In a bid to encourage things along, Lucy recently asked fans for tips on how to induce labour to help encourage her baby girl to make an appearance.
However despite her best efforts, her second child has still not arrived, leading Lucy to undergo a sweep, a drug free way of naturally attempting to induce labour.
If you aren’t familiar with the term, it essentially involves a midwife sweeping their finger around your cervix during an internal exam in order to separate the membrane of the amniotic sac surrounding your baby from the cervix.
This separation then triggers a hormonal response that can sometimes start labour.
Although the process does sound scary, Lucy updated fans on her Instagram story to say that it wasn’t nearly as bad as she had remembered – and reassured her followers that it wasn’t even painful.
“Actually the sweep wasn’t painful at all. It was completely fine,” wrote the star.
“I thought it was worse from memory. Let’s hope its given baby girl a little nudge x."
Ahead of the birth, Lucy has been spending time with partner Ryan and their son Roman, with the young family most recently spotted out painting together over the weekend.
In a series of adorable snaps shared online, Ryan, 37, Lucy and Roman enjoyed a fun day of painting with Roman, who decorated a clay butterfly to celebrate his grandma’s 90th birthday.
The fun outing also continued later on, with dad Ryan helping the youngster to paint a dinosaur a vibrant shade of green while Lucy documented the scenes with a cheerful caption of: “Not sure who’s enjoying themselves more, lol!”
Lucy also kept herself busy with exercise on Monday as she attempted to kick start her labour, with the reality star turned businesswoman also having revealed she had booked a reflexology appointment to help ease her stress and anxiety.
The alternative therapy can also help relieve mood swings, backache, muscle pain and sleeping problems, all too common for women at the end of their pregnancy.
