Robert Altman, a 73-year-old gaming CEO and husband to Wonder Woman actress Lynda Carter, died on Feb. 3 in a Baltimore hospital (per The Washington Post). Carter finally broke her silence on her husband’s death in an Instagram post on Wednesday, Feb. 10, writing a heartfelt tribute to the love that the couple shared throughout their 37 years of marriage.
“One week ago, my beloved husband Robert A. Altman passed away,” Carter wrote in an Instagram post. “Robert is the love of my life and he always will be. Our 37 years of marriage were an extraordinary gift. We shared the passion I hope everyone is lucky enough to experience in their lifetime. We protected each other and were each other’s champions always.”
Carter then went on to celebrate the life that they built together, which involved their two children, actress Jessica Altman and James Altman: “We have always been grateful for the two beautiful lives we created together: our children, Jessica and James … They are the lights of my life, and were the greatest joy of Robert’s. I see so much of Robert in them, and I know he lives on through them.”
Carter directly addresses her late husband and his fans
In her Instagram post, Lynda Carter directly addressed her late husband’s fans. Altman, after quitting his job as a lawyer, became the chief executive of video game company ZeniMax Media that created and developed popular video games like Doom, Fallout, Wolfenstein, and The Elder Scrolls (via Polygon).
“To all the fans who have shared their condolences: Jessica, James, and I want to say thank you,” Carter wrote. “We especially love hearing about the times you met Robert at concerts or through his work in the gaming world. He loved meeting you and hearing your stories.”
Then, Carter turned her attention to Altman himself, recounting the years of happiness that they had experienced together. The pair were married in 1984; and on Jan. 29, 2021, they had celebrated their 37th wedding anniversary, which Carter had marked with a photo of the two of them at an airport, telling Altman that she was thankful to wake up to him each day (via Fox News).
In her tribute to him one week after his death, she wrote: “To Robert: You are the most honorable person that I have ever had the privilege to know,” she said. “And I got to be your wife and the mother of your children. Thank you for giving me all the love in my life. Nothing could prepare our family for this moment, but we will do our best to follow our dreams and honor the legacy you’ve left behind. I will love you always and forever.”
