Machine Gun Kelly had a great time at the Billboard Music Awards on Sunday (May 23), winning the Top Rock Artist and Top Rock Album awards.
Kelly, clad in an opened-up shirt and suit combo, said, “I released my first mixtape 15 years ago, and this is the first big stage I’ve ever been invited to accept an award on,” as he accepted the award from Chelsea Handler.
Encouraging his fans to keep pursuing their goals, Kelly said, “I wanna say something to the dreamers out there who are going to be tested by reality the way I was — suspend logic and invite magic. If five years or 10 years or 12 years had been too long waiting for this moment, then I wouldn’t be having this moment. Show the universe that it can’t take your dream from you.”
Kelly thanked his team, his girlfriend Megan Fox, his daughter and the rest of his family for their support.
“To the box that society keeps trying to put me in, you need stronger material, because you can’t keep me in it,” he said with a smile.
Kelly, who won the top rock album award for Tickets to My Downfall, won the top rock artist award over other nominees including Bruce Springsteen, AC/DC and Twenty One Pilots.
MGK gave a shoutout to his hometown of Cleveland while accepting award, saying, “To the city of Cleveland who raised a savage…”
