MAFS UKs Paul C Brunson and Charlene Perera ‘in therapy’ to cope with ‘intense’ series

It’s the reality show that’s had us gripped every night as we watch newlywed strangers navigating their way through the incredible ups and explosive downs of married life.

But Married At First Sight UK’s dating expert Paul C Brunson has told us that he’s had to have extra therapy sessions to cope with the intensity of the show.

Paul, who also stars as an advisor on Celebs Go Dating, told us: “This is the most explosive series yet.

"Every dinner party will keep you glued and have you on the edge of the seat.”

He continues: “I go to therapy and Charlene [Douglas] does as well and I increased my visits this series.

"Not necessarily because it was explosive, but if you are counselling someone, if you are not being counselled it’s easy to project challenges that you’re having onto other people.”

Paul, 48, goes on to explain just why this series was so challenging, telling us: “Another reason is that these commitment ceremonies were very intense. The most intense I’ve seen.

"I think the reason for that is I believe this is the most diverse cast I've ever seen, and it’s not about sexuality or ethnicity, it’s personalities, values, everything.

"There are more challenges and that requires more of us as experts.”

One couple who were particularly challenging were Whitney Hughes and Duka Cav, with legal personal assistant Whitney branded the “worst bride ever” on social media.

Referring to the way Whitney conducted herself on the show, Paul said: “There is a way of giving an opinion without being unkind.

"We end up discussing what kindness means on the show. There’s an episode where I make my thoughts [on Whitney] clear, so how I feel might be evident.”

And as for whether or not Chanita Stephenson and Jordan Emmett-Connelly will be the next Adam Aveling and Tayah Victoria – who are engaged and currently expecting their first child together – Paul says no two couples are the same.

He explains: “No one will be Tayah and Adam and no one will be Matt Jameson and Dan McKee. Each couple has their own journey.

"There’s obviously a bit of a hierarchy with who is the strongest couple and who is the weakest, and they’re one of the strongest, but their challenge is how do they cope with being the strongest and the pressure that comes with that.”
