A radio star has called for This Morning's Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield to apologise for their royal queue scandal.
Holly and Phil have been facing backlash after fans believed they jumped the queue to see the Queen Lying-in-State. However, the two have denied the accusations and released a statement to say they were there in a professional capacity, reporting on the death of Her Majesty.
However, writing in his Daily Express column, radio presenter James Whale expressed that the television duo should be made to "apologise properly or give us back Eamonn and Ruth".
He wrote: "I don't expect they'll lose their careers over this but maybe they could just try being straight with us, apologise properly and not attempt to get out of it with these pathetic excuses.
"Otherwise, bring back Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes. Frankly, I preferred them anyway."
Addressing the queue jumping accusations in a pre-recorded statement, Holly told This Morning viewers last week: "Like hundreds of accredited broadcasters and journalists we were given permission to access the hall.
“It was strictly for the purpose of reporting on the event for millions of people in the UK who haven’t been able to visit Westminster in person."
She added: “The rules were that we would be quickly escorted around the edges to a platform at the back. In contrast, those paying respects walked along a carpeted area beside the coffin and were given time to pause."
Although some people have been accepting of Holly's explanation, some fans have called for the two to be removed from their hosting duties as over 73,000 people signed a petition for them to quit.
While they've certainly remained professional amidst the drama, Holly was recently spotted in London looking reflective.
Body language expert Judi James also told OK! that although Holly presented herself well on TV, it's likely that she's been feeling the heat behind the scenes.
Judi said: “Holly and Phil have enough TV experience to mask any amount of pressure or emotions behind the scenes.
“Their subtler rituals and gestures do seem to reflect a more subdued emotional state though, with Holly showing some clues that she could have been in tears off-camera about their ‘Queue-gate’ situation. She performed a head-wobble smile and her eyes look narrowed, which can be another sign of tears behind the scenes.”
Thousands of people, including celebrities such as David Beckham and Susanna Reid, stayed in the queue for hours before seeing the Queen's Lying-in-State.
