Marie Osmond doubles down on decision not to leave her eight children an inheritance: ‘It breeds laziness’
In a new interview with Us Weekly, Marie Osmond opened up about motherhood and defended her choice to not to leave her eight children an inheritance.
‘Why would you enable your child to not try to be something? I don’t know anybody who becomes anything if they’re just handed money,’ the show business vet, 63, said.
The ageless beauty – who recently revealed she wants Selena Gomez to play her in a biopic – continued, ‘To me, the greatest gift you can give your child is a passion to search out who they are inside and to work.’

Speaking emphatically about her lust for life, the former Dancing With the Stars contestant added, ‘I mean, I’ve done so many things from designing dolls [and much more]. I love trying. I wanna try everything. I’m a finisher.’
Osmond shares son Stephen, 39, with husband Steve Craig, 71 and she has seven other children from her previous marriage to Brian Blosil.
Jessica, 35, Rachael, 33, Brandon, 26, Brianna, 24, Matthew, 23, and Abigail, 18, round out her brood.
Marie and Brian’s oldest child Michael struggled with depression and took his own life at the age of 17 in 2010.

Marie admitted to the publication that one of the things she teaches her kids is to finish what they start.
She stated proudly, ‘That’s one of my rules with my kids. If you start it, you finish it, you don’t ever have to do it again, but you gotta finish.
‘And, I just think all [an inheritance] does is breed laziness and entitlement. I worked hard and I’m gonna spend it all and have fun with my husband.’
Marie first made her plan not to leave the kids her money back in February 2020.

She was filming an episode of The Talk when she noted, ‘I think you do a great disservice to your children to just hand them a fortune because you take away the one most important gift you can give your children, and that’s the ability to work.’
The actress explained, ‘You see it a lot in rich families where the kids, they don’t know what to do and so they get in trouble.
‘Let them be proud of what they make. I’m going to give mine to my charity.’
Osmond sometimes uses her social media platform to pay tribute to her kids on their birthdays and other special occasions.
This past November she showered daughter Brianna in affection as she wished her a happy birthday.
‘Where does the time go? Happy Birthday to my precious daughter Brianna,’ she began the caption. ‘And now you have two beautiful little girls of your own. You’re such a precious and incredible mama!!!
‘I could not love you more, my angel!!!’ she gushed to her 359,000 followers.

Sharing a photo with him and his wife from the graduation ceremony, she said: ‘Our amazing son Stephen graduated from UCLA with an MBA! We are so proud of him!!!! It’s quite an accomplishment to be a finisher!!!!’
‘Afterward, Steve and I were talking to him about what a great challenge it had been to go to school and work full time while also being a husband, and a dad to four children,’ she explained.
Then she added, ‘He told me how much easier it would have been to finish right out of college but I am absolutely sure he will find an easier way to do the next hard thing in his life.
‘I don’t believe any experience is ever wasted if we learn from it.’
