Marilyn Monroe and Elvis Presley had “the most glorious one-night stand of all time”, according to an insider who claims he was once an assistant to the Jailhouse Rock crooner’s manager.
In a sensational unearthed story originally published in Radar Online, Byron Raphael made the claim that he’d picked Marilyn up and driven her to Elvis’s hotel suite, where the pair immediately began kissing.
However, he insisted that their first meeting didn’t run nearly as smoothly when they cast eyes on each other back in 1960.
“Elvis had never seen Marilyn. Then… the two most explosive and legendary sex symbols of their era sized each other up in the street in front of a soundstage at Twentieth Century Fox, and came away unnerved.”
According to the story, Byron and his group of pals, who’d branded themselves the Memphis Mafia, urged a then-shy Elvis to ask the blonde bombshell out on a date.

Author Alanna Nash memorialised their first meeting in her book Baby, Let’s Play House, stating that he called her “Miss Monroe” and was full of “self-deprecating Southern charm”.
However, Marilyn apparently became shy after realising that curious eyes were watching them, and when he invited her to a party scheduled for the following evening, she refused.
Taking up the story, Byron recalled that she made her apologetic excuses and “dashed away” – and she was known to be married at that time to Arthur Miller.
She had once stated that Arthur was the only man she’d ever trusted as much as herself, and even converted to Judaism for their wedding.

However, on the set of Misfits – the 1961 film that Arthur wrote and Marilyn starred in – the cracks began to show, and the pair divorced the same year of its release.
Meanwhile, Byron had thought that was the end of the brief interaction between Marilyn and Elvis – until one day the latter requested that he pick her up.
“He said, ‘Pick up Marilyn.’ I said, ‘Really?’ I remember almost distinctly and this is decades ago…I brought her to the Beverly Wilshire hotel and we went upstairs to his room.
“When he saw her, they came together and, without saying a word, started kissing,” he continued.

At 34, Marilyn was almost a decade older than the Can’t Help Falling In Love singer, but the age gap didn’t deter either of them, as according to Byron, they hit the bedroom in a matter of “two minutes”.
He says he dozed off for a while, only to awaken and see the pair emerge “stark naked” while he hid behind the bar.
Byron was ultimately unsure whether Elvis called Marilyn a cab or whether she stayed the entire night with him, but he recalls an amusing anecdote relating to their time together.
“A few days later, when I mentioned Marilyn to Elvis, he said, ‘She’s a nice gal, but a little tall for me,'” he claimed.
For those wanting more of Marilyn, the third part of a four-episode series, Reframed: Marilyn Monroe, airs on BBC Two tonight at 9pm, detailing how she “brimmed with feminism, sexuality and power”.
