Mark Labbett has taken to Twitter and reacted to a social media user who issued a complaint about The Chase. The quizmaster, otherwise known as The Beast, urged the person in question to direct their grievances to ITV, as his colleague Anne Hegerty waded in.

It comes after viewers of The Chase hit out at “unfair” questions given to a blind player on last night’s episode.

During the programme, blind contestant Josh was questioned about the colours of snooker balls which led to a flurry of complaints online.

Unimpressed viewers hit out on social media, as one wrote: “Seems unfair + wrong that #TheChase just asked a sight-impaired contestant about which colour ball is furthest from the player on a snooker table #Disability #DisabilityTwitter.”

Another added: “Hard to believe but #TheChase just asked a blind man a question on the coloured balls of snooker, visual art and bioluminescence. I really hope it’s random selection.”

Mark, 56, hit out on social media after one user directed their complaint at him and show host Bradley Walsh.

The person in question wrote: “Why ask a vision-impaired contestant questions involving answers based on vision (ie “what color is..?” as an example). Do you not think it’s unfair?

“Please give him a fair chance to win #blind #disability @guidedogs”

The social media user had directed the tweet at “@thechaseabc @BradleyWalsh @MarkLabbett.”

In view of his 146,000 followers, Mark replied: “Because the questions are, er, random?

“Something like 2-3% are ‘visual’ questions and statistically should occur sometime to a visually impaired player. More importantly, why are you targeting two people and an American production?”

He added: “Two people who have no input on questions at all. Please direct complaints to @itvchase where relevant producers can reply.”

The small-screen star said that any complaints sent to him over social media were a “waste of time”.

In a follow-up tweet, the Chaser penned: “Would people who have complaints about #TheChase please direct them to @itvchase. Otherwise you are wasting your time.”

Another user quizzed: “What complaints have there been?”

Anne Hegerty, also known as The Governess on The Chase, reacted as she came to Mark’s defence.

She penned: “Well, if Twitter is anything like Facebook, I’m guessing people are saying it can’t be ‘new’ if it was filmed last year.

“Because apparently everything they ever buy was made in the last week.”

Mark was soon bombarded with more complaints amid his initial tweet, as another person said: “They asked a blind man what colours the furthest from the player when breaking in snooker.”

To which Mark replied: “Why are you copying me in? Nothing to do with me.”

Another Twitter user commented: “Although just while I’m here it was particularly brutal, bad luck and downright harsh for the blind guy yesterday getting a question about the placement and position of snooker balls.”

Mark responded: “Nothing to do with me. Stop copying me in.”

The Chase airs weekdays on ITV at 5pm.
