Martin Roberts, 56, is usually hands on with most things and having renovated multiple properties over the years, he’s become a dab hand at DIY. But this week he found himself beat, as he took to Twitter to announce an overcomplicated toilet had taken it out of him.
I have to share my pain!

In a dramatic video posted to his Twitter account, the Homes Under The Hammer host raged at the porcelain lavatory as he tried to figure out how to fix it.
Captioning the video: “I’m having toilet trouble and need to vent some steam…” Martin apologised for the upcoming rant.
“I apologise in advance because this is probably the most boring video you’ve seen all day,” he told his followers.
“But I have to share my pain!”
He explained what he was trying to do, showing viewers the situation inside the back of the toilet.
“This is a vaguely modernised one and when you push this plastic, the toilet flushes,” he said, demonstrating as he went.
But he soon revealed what had left him puzzled.
Holding the outer flush, he looked totally baffled as he flung his head back.
Martin screeched: “There are so many variables it’s unbelievable!”
“You can set the height of this, you can set the height of that, the thing I’ve just discovered comes apart…
“And there’s another set of adjustments over here!”
He moaned: “Why are there so many adjustments?!”
The presenter paused as he took a few deep breaths: “And breathe…” he sighed before concluding his video.
After he shared the panicked footage to his page, fans rushed to the comments section to try and help him out, sharing tips and teasing the 56-year-old with some light-hearted jokes.
One wrote: “You just need a good old fashioned ‘bog standard’ lever on the front or a pull chain… none of this new fangled wizardry that nobody can figure out…. but chill out either way, you are looking a bit flushed!” they laughed.
Another added: “Must admit, much prefer older simpler designs, also annoying you cant just buy ‘bits’ you have to buy kits. Any water saving is wiped out while waiting for the combi to catch up and give me hot water.”
A third shared Martin’s pain: “Yep, been there (not literally). Those tiny fiddly little plastic thingies, not like in my day, we had gravity and proper chains.”
“Ah ok – I had a whole different picture in my head,” someone else laughed, referring to the caption.
A fifth joked: “And I thought you meant you were constipated!”
Homes Under The Hammer airs weekdays at 10am on BBC One.
