After welcoming son Blake in October, doting dad Marvin Humes says he and wife Rochelle feel like their family is now complete.
Opening up about parenthood, Marvin – who also has daughters Alaia-Mai, eight, and Valentina, four, with the 32-year-old former Saturdays singer – tells new: “At times it’s hectic and it’s really busy, but we do our best to keep on top of it.”
While they have their hands full at home, the JLS star admits it’s still important for the couple to make time for each other when they can.
And with the pair celebrating 10 years of marriage next summer, they’re planning a second wedding so their children can be involved this time around.
Here, Marvin, 36, also opens up about being a “cool dad” and going on tour with JLS…
Hi Marvin! How is little Blake getting on?
He’s amazing. People say after having a third child it’s naturally a lot more crazy, but I’ll be honest, he sort of just fit into our life.
My eight-year-old and four-year-old have got a lot of energy and they absolutely love him. They think that they’re his mums as well.
He’s almost got three mums now because they really mother him.
But he’s doing great. He’s sleeping well and eating well. We’re so happy we’ve got a son. He’s completed the family.
Were you pleased to add a baby boy to your brood?
For sure. He helps me out with the numbers in the household because at the minute it’s very female dominated.
It’s nice now I have a little bit of back-up! I always lose the battle over the TV remote and I have to go to another room to watch the football.
But I think when Blake is a little bit older, it’ll be easier to win those battles.
What’s your favourite thing about being a dad?
It’s just the love you can’t explain until you have kids – it’s an unconditional love.
You always worry about if another comes along, whether you’re going to be able to love them as much as the others.
But your love just sort of doubles and triples.
We’re so lucky to have three amazing kids who bring so much happiness and energy.
Just seeing them grow is so lovely. And it’s just the little things. My eldest is so sweet and sensitive. She always leaves me little notes around the house.
If I’m out at work and I don’t get to do bed time or bath time, she’s so caring and asks if I’m OK. She wonders if I’ve eaten and if I’ve got to work alright.
Do the kids think you’re a cool dad?
Hmm… I don’t know! It’s funny because Alaia’s friends have seen that her mum and dad were in pop bands. So I think for her, it’s cool when it suits her.
When we’re playing the O2 Arena and she wants tickets for her mates, Dad can sort it out and they can go backstage. I think that might be when I’m cool dad.
But at the minute, most of the time I’m nagging her.
Would you like more kids in the future?
No, we’re done. I can safely say we’re finished. We’re good with where we are now.
Do you still make time for date nights with Rochelle?
Yeah, we had one recently for the first time in a long time.
We got the kids to school and we went to a restaurant in town.
For the first 20 minutes we were just looking around us, like, “We don’t have the kids!”
It was crazy just having a little bit of time to ourselves because before all of this [lockdown] craziness we would try and do that once a week or once a fortnight, but obviously we haven’t been able to.
It’s been a while since we’ve had time to ourselves to be Marvin and Rochelle rather than Mum and Dad.
It will be your 10th wedding anniversary next summer – will you do anything special?
Definitely. We got married on 27 July 2012, so we would love to mark the occasion.
Obviously, the kids weren’t around for the wedding and Alaia especially lets us know that. She asks why she wasn’t there.
We definitely want to have another wedding, a vow renewal, so we’re thinking about that now and making plans for it.
It would be great for the kids to be there to see Mummy and Daddy get married again. We want to have a big party.
The JLS reunion is also coming up. Are you excited to get back on the road?
Oh, 100%. We had a little taste last February when we announced we were doing the tour.
We performed on Ant And Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway and The One Show, so we had a month when I was back in JLS mode.
It was strange in the beginning, but lovely to be back with the boys and to see the fans again. We’ve nearly finished the album so we’ll have a new single coming out soon.
I’m really excited for everyone to hear JLS in 2021. The tour has been moved twice now – this will be the third try to get on the road. We still don’t know for sure but we’re optimistic it’s going to happen in October.
Is there a JLS WhatsApp group?
Yeah, there are two. There’s one with the wives and one without.
But that one is usually boring – just work and JLS stuff. The group with our partners is photos of the kids, birthday messages and just catching up. There are eight JLS children now so we’ve got our own little band.

Congratulations on your latest collection with Next. What can we expect?
I wanted to make sure that it’s full of summer pieces, so it’s summer vibes with lots of colour.
But because it’s quite unpredictable weather in the UK, there are also some layering pieces you can wear when it turns a bit colder. It’s keeping in with the previous edits and has lots of classic pieces like chinos and polo shirts.
Has your style changed since becoming a dad?
Definitely. If you go through the JLS looks back in the day, there are definitely some questionable outfits!
Mostly the deep V-neck T-shirts we used to rock all the time which pretty much showed off our belly buttons! I’m glad to see the back of those. I like to think now I’m a little bit older, I try not to make those mistakes any more.
