Meghan Markle made women feel bad for making a living, says Whoopi Goldberg

Meghan Marklemade "other women feel bad" by saying her work on Deal or No Deal left her feeling like a "bimbo," according to Whoopi Goldberg.

Whoopi made the comment during on talk show The View, and they come following the release of Meghan’s latest Archetypes podcast on Spotify– titled Breaking Down The Bimbo.

In it, Megan andParis Hilton , both 41, discuss how the "blonde bimbo" or "dumb blonde" archetype flourished in the reality TV boom of the early 2000s.

During the podcast, Meghan said her time as a briefcase girl on Deal or No Deal, between 2006 and 2007, made her feel “objectified” and “not smart” – although she was grateful for the work as a struggling actress.

Following her comments, Real Housewives of Atlanta star Claudia Jordan, who starred on the show from 2005 to 2009,said the show “never treated them like bimbos” and helped provide “so many opportunities” for the 'briefcase girls'.

And now, film star Whoopi has weighed in on the debate and shared her skepticism at Meghan's claim.

She said: “I don't know that the people who are sitting there are thinking about you like that. They're thinking, ‘I want the money’.

“The objectification might be coming from you and how you felt about how these women were being portrayed.

“That's what you have to change because we're performers. When you're a performer, you take the gig… sometimes, you're in a bozo suit, sometimes you got a big nose, and this is just the way it is.”

As the discussion continued, the panel said Meghan was within her rights to walk away from the show if that was how it made her feel.

Whoopi added: “My point is, if you see it and that's how you feel, just maybe, you don't want to make the other women feel bad because maybe they're trying to make a living, too.”

On the Archetypes episode, Meghan said she wants her own daughter Lilibet to be valued for more than just her looks.

She added: "I want our daughter to aspire to be slightly higher. Yeah, I want my Lili to want to be educated and want to be smart and to pride herself on those things."

It's been a big week for Meghan, with the release of her new interview with Variety magazine also debuting online.

In the piece, Meghan spoke about the days after the bombshell interview she and Prince Harry gave to Oprah in 2021, life for the Sussexes in the US and her relationship with the late Queen Elizabeth II.
