Melanie Clark Pullen dead: EastEnders star has died aged 46 after breast cancer battle

Melanie Clark Pullen, who played Pauline Fowler's niece in EastEnders, has died at the age of 46 following a battle with breast cancer.

According to The Sun, the actor was diagnosed with cancer in January 2019 and passed a way on 29 March one year later following several rounds of radiotherapy.

The star is survived by her husband Simon and their three children together.

Melanie found a lump on her breast in 2018 and after undergoing a series of tests at Ulster Hospital she was given the news that she had breast cancer.

While going through chemotherapy, she was tested for an found to be a carrier of the BRCA 2 mutant gene, which increases the chance of breast and ovarian cancer.

At the time, she told Irish News that she had to "develop a dark sense of humour" to get her through the treatment.

“But there's absolutely nothing funny about standing in front of a strange man, stripped from the waist up, as he weighs up your boobs. It was utterly absurd," she shared.

She continued: “The whole cancer experience isn’t something I can explain in words. It is much deeper. It is happening in your body. This helps you express that. You don't have to find the words; I still find it hard to describe what has happened to me.

"It's been brutal, horrific. I'm forever changed. But through art journaling and art therapy, I've been able to get out those feelings without having to explain them. And that's really helped.”

While she was given the all clear in 2020, last June she revealed that she had a brain tumour.

She kept her fans up to date on her condition through her social media channels, but sadly passed away last month.
