Metallica Announce 40th Anniversary ‘San Francisco Takeover’

Metallica have announced several variety programs in San Francisco next month marking the 40th anniversary of the heavy metal band.

“We’re just one short month away from celebrating 40 years together, and we can’t wait to welcome fans from around the world to our hometown!” Metallica said in a statement.

“When we first told you about the two shows at Chase Center on December 17 and 19, we also promised a full weekend of ‘TALLICA family vibes with curated live music, Blackened Whiskey tastings, and other events starting the night before the first show,” the band added. “Well… we’re back with all the details.”

The three-day celebration, titled “San Francisco Takeover,” will begin with White Reaper and Taipei Houston playing at August Hall on December 16.

The Wedding Band, Goodnight, Texas, and Bastardane will take the stage at The Fillmore on December 17.

The Blackened American Whiskey Team will host the official Metallica 40th Anniversary Kick-Off Party on the same day.

Those who buy Ross Halfin‘s book “Metallica: The Black Album in Black & White” will get an opportunity to get it signed by the acclaimed photographer on December 18.

There will also be a Q&A with Steffan Chirazi at the Elk’s Lodge and a gallery show taking place at 198 Utah Street.

A Film Fest will kick off at the The AMC Kabuki 8 on the same day.
Metallica offers to screen the films Cliff ‘Em All, Cunning Stunts and Orgullo, Pasión y Gloria: Tres Noches En La Ciudad de México.

Kamasi Washington and The OTTTO will also be hitting the stage during the weekend at various venues.

Tickets for “San Francisco Takeover” go on sale on Friday at 10 AM PST.
