Metallica's 'Enter Sandman' Reaches 1 Billion Streams On Spotify

Metal icons Metallica‘s “Enter Sandman” has reached one billion streams on Spotify.

“You guys have outdone yourselves once again! 137 million hours of Metallica were streamed on Spotify in 2022, up by more than 20 million hours from last year. Whether you’re new to Metallica, or you’ve been listening for the past 41 years, we’d like to extend a huge THANK YOU to the entire Metallica Family,” the band shared with their fans.

With more than a billion streams, “Enter Sandman” joins other major rock tracks like AC/DC‘s “Highway to Hell,” Bon Jovi‘s “Livin’ on a Prayer,” Nirvana‘s “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” and several other hits.

The only other song of Metallica’s that’s even close to another billion streams is “Nothing Else Matters,” with almost 873 million streams.

“Enter Sandman” was the opening track and lead single from Metallica’s self-titled fifth album, released in 1991. The music was written by Kirk Hammett, James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich. Vocalist and rhythm guitarist Hetfield wrote the lyrics.

The single reached No. 16 on the Billboard Hot 100 and achieved platinum certification, propelling Metallica to worldwide popularity.

Metallica also became the most-streamed metal band of 2022, earning a total of 1.6 billion plays over the last 12 months, with “Enter Sandman,” “Nothing Else Matters” and “Master Of Puppets” helping them surpass 2021’s total of 1.3 billion plays.
