Michael Owen admits to not liking his daughter Gemma kissing on Love Island

Former footballer Michael Owen recently opened up on why he chose to skip watching his daughter Gemma Owen, during her racy challenges on Love Island show.

Admitting that he found it daunting to watch Gemma, 19, "kiss" the boys on TV, Michael, 42, said he was also worried about how the public would view her afterwards.

Gemma, who was recently unveiled as PrettyLittleThing's newest ambassador, was coupled up with Luca Bish, with the pair finishing in second place.

Although, the brunette was initially "50/50" about joining the show, it seems as though Gemma will have no regrets about going into the villa and Michael even quipped that he's just known as "Gemma Owen's dad" as a result.

“It wasn't the best of conversations when she first asked me about going on Love Island.", he said.

“She's pretty sensible and she's a good kid and I had no worries," Michael added. "I just didn't bring myself to watch some of the challenges and things like that.

"I don't like seeing my daughter kiss people, but I probably watched 30 to 40% of the show.

"On the days that I didn't watch, I was on the phone to the wife [Louise] at five past 10 asking, 'how did she do?'

“I know it's been great feedback and she's done well. I think it's been good for – she's had a good time.”

Michael was finally introduced to Gemma's beau, Luca, 23, for the first time, as they enjoyed a vacation together last week.

Luca, who was initially nervous about meeting Gemma's dad, joked on his Instagram about it being their "first holiday" together – and shared with fans that he was wearing Gemma's swimwear brand OG on the beach.

Gemma later said the meeting ‘couldn’t have gone better’ as she told Capital radio: "It was so nice. They all got on really well. How he was with my brothers and sisters as well, it was so cute."

Two weeks after the show had finished, it seemed like Michael had finally given Luca his blessings, as the father of four started following him on Instagram.

Although, Gemma and Luca have not yet made things official, their relationship has been going from strength to strength, and they've been inseparable as they settle into celebrity life.
