Michelle Keegan glows in selfie as she shares highlights from filming in Australia

Former Coronation Street star Michelle Keegan has shared some highlights from her time in Australia as she filmed a new BBC period drama.

The 34 year old jetted off Down Under last week to film a then-secret project, which some believed to be her return to BBC’s Our Girl.

It has now been revealed she is starring in a new six-part series called Ten Pound Poms, from the team behind Netflix’ Sex Education.

The series will explore the story of Brits who moved to Australia during the 1950s in pursuit of a new life after post-war Britain.

Michelle is glowing in a selfie shared to her Instagram, with her brunette hair swept across her face and a natural makeup look.

She captioned the picture series with, "My 1st week down unda.” with emojis of a koala, sloth, wave and surfer.

The actress showed her followers the incredible views of the ocean, a colourful flower market, a sunset, and sandy beach in photos from her trip so far.

TV star Michelle also teased photos of her time filming the project, including a sneak peak of a script which she is seen reading on the beach.

Michelle also snapped a picture of the studios and the set, which looks fitting for the era the production is set in with an old school television.

Fans were pleased to see Michelle loving her time in Australia.

One said: “One of the best countries in the world, you’ll love it!”

Another wrote: “So proud of you, go and smash it”.

The series is said to be a “dream” for Michelle, a friend recently toldThe Sun.

“Michelle has always had one big dream, which is appearing in a period drama and Ten Pound Poms will let her dip her toe in those past times,” they said.

She will be working with screenwriter Danny Brocklehurst on the project, the pair have worked together on Sky Max’s Brassic and BBC One’s Ordinary Lies.


While discussing the show, Danny said: “It is a big, bold character piece about what it means to start again, to be an outsider in a new land.

“It asks questions about success and failure, identity, parenthood and belonging.

“The assisted migration programme is a little-known part of British and Australian history but offers endless stories about the people who travelled to the other side of the world in search of a better life.”

Michelle recentlycelebrated her seven year anniversarywith husbandMark Wright, despite being 10,000 miles away.

The couple, who are in the process ofrenovating their incredible £3.5 million Essex home, are used to spending lots of time apart as they have busy work schedules in the UK and the USA.

Mark revealed in March that heturned down a Hollywood jobbecause he did not want to leave Michelle home alone again.
