Mike and Zara Tindall morph into Barbie and Ken as they celebrate anniversary

Zara Tindall and husband Mike Tindall have paid homage to the smash hit Barbie film while celebrating their 12 year anniversary.

The 44 year old former Rugby Union player took to Instagram to share a side by side image of him and his wife as Mattel-inspired Barbie dolls. In the cute photo, Zara’s Barbie alternate boasts bouncy blonde hair and sports a pink waistcoat and leggings.

Mike’s Ken doll is kitted out in a beige suit with a complementary white shirt. Captioning the picture, he simply penned: “Thanks for the messages, it’s been a great 12 years. Feel we are getting younger!!! [crying laughing emoji] #zarbieandTen”.

Famous faces and fans alike flocked to the comments section to share their thoughts. Chloe Madeley, daughter of Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan, said: “This is brilliant”.

Andy Goode, also a former Rugby Union player, joked: “Have you had your lid done?!” One fan said: “Love this! Congratulations to you both!” While another asked: “hilarious! How on earth did you do that?! Happy Anniversary to you both xxx”.

A third commented: “This is Superb! Happy Anniversary to you both”, and another remarked: “Omg they actually look like you both”. A fifth added: “12 years? Wow it only seems like yesterday you two was introduced. Love at first sight”.

42-year-old Zara – Queen Elizabeth II’s granddaughter – and Mike tied the knot in a stunning ceremony held at Canongate Kirk in Edinburgh in 2011. Numerous members of the Royal Family attended the nuptials, including Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Harry, Prince William and Kate Middleton.

After first meeting nearly 20 years ago, the couple enjoyed one of the most enduring marriages within the royal family, and are often pictured looking loved-up at sporting events and country fairs.

They met when rugby player Mike was dropped from the squad shortly before the semi-final, prompting him to venture out to a local pub with two of his friends, Martin Corry and Austin Healy, where he soon bumped into his wife-to-be.

Speaking to the Daily Mail in 2011 about their first meeting, he explained: “Austin gave me her number and said, 'She wants you to text her, to say where you're all going out after the final so she can come along'.”

Following their initial encounter, the pair began talking and their relationship went from strength to strength. When asked if Zara's royal status added to any pressure he may have felt during the early stages of their relationship, Mike went on: “No, because we were friends first, and then William and Harry were massive English fans at the time. So we’d met them numerous times.

"So as things go, I met more of the family than you would normally have met of the family of the woman you start dating.”
