Legendary Hip-Hop artist, singer-songwriter, producer and dancer Missy Elliott on Monday received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
In the induction ceremony held on Hollywood Boulevard in front of Amoeba Music, the music icon was presented with the 2,708th Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in the Category of Recording.
Superstars Ciara and Lizzo, and longtime manager / TV & film producer Mona Scott-Young joined Emcee Nicole Mihalka, Chair of the Board for the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, to unveil the star during the livestreamed event.
“You are the brightest star in the universe,” an emotional Lizzo told Missy. “I watched you my entire life and I saw a superstar in you, but I also saw myself… You lived so boldly and so beautifully and so unapologetically and so out loud. You have no idea what you have done for so many Black girls.”
Ciara said there’s a genre of music called Missy.
“It’s just a blessing to dream big and it truly happened,” said Missy in her acceptance speech. She dedicated the honor to her “sisters in hip-hop.”
