The upcoming horror film The Retaliators‘ theme song, “21 Bullets,” features Mötley Crüe.
The band’s bassist Nikki Sixx co-wrote “21 Bullets” with his Sixx: A.M. bandmate James Michael.
In addition to Mötley Crüe, the track also features guest appearances by several hard rock acts, including members of Asking Alexandria, Ice Nine Kills and From Ashes to New.
The track sees the rockers trading vocals and also doing some harmonies on the verses. The chorus repeats the film’s title, with the ominous phrase, “Twenty-one bullets, twenty-one guns / Twenty-one daughters, twenty-one sons” spoken underneath.
“Writing a new theme song for a horror flick was inspiring,” Sixx said in a statement. “This was my first time writing for a horror-thriller film, and it took me in a different direction from the first theme song I wrote-‘The Dirt (1981)’ by Mötley Crüe.”
“I worked with some great new artists to create a new sound that will stretch Mötley Crüe’s audience to new fans,” he added. “I had a great time writing it, and I think our fans will love it too!”
Mötley Crüe’s longtime manager Allen Kovac is the producer of The Retaliators, which is set to hit theaters September 14.
The movie features Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee, Papa Roach vocalist Jacoby Shaddix, Five Finger Death Punch members Ivan Moody, Zoltan Bathory and Chris Kael, and members of Escape the Fate and Ice Nine Kills.
