BBC Breakfast presenter Naga Munchetty, 46, has thrown her support behind Rafael Nadal, 35, today as she tuned into the Australian Open final. Nadal made history, as his victory marked the first time he had come back from two sets down to beat Daniil Medvedev, 25.

However, some tennis fans doubted the Spaniard’s chances of winning the tournament, which Naga was quick to contest.

Twitter user Golfman49 penned while Nadal struggled during the match: “It’s going to be hard for him to win this I think Naga.

“I want him to win too but, the amount of sweat coming off him shows how hard he is working.

“Not sure he can keep it up for the rest of the match against a man 10 years younger.

“Hope I’m wrong #AusOpen.”

Despite her Twitter follower’s concerns, Naga was quick to hit back, responding: “I hope you’re wrong too! #AusOpen.”

The sports fan was initially replying to Naga, who had been cheering Nadal on throughout the day.

“Come on Rafa!!! #AusOpen,” she had exclaimed in an encouraging post.

Naga went on to urge Nadal to keep going while facing difficulties during the match.

The newsreader penned in view of her 265,000 followers: “Come On Rafa!!!#NeverGiveUp #AusOpen.”

Nadal must have been spurred on by all the support from his fans, as he beat the odds and won a record 21st Grand Slam in five sets in the Australian Open final at Melbourne Park.

The sportsman won by three sets to two (2-6, 6-7, 6-4, 6-4, 7-5).
