Neil Young has announced that he will release his Young Shakespeare live album, as well as a concert film, on March 26.
Young has also shared a video for “Tell Me Why,” taken from the live performance, and a trailer.
The album features Young’s solo acoustic show that took place on January 22, 1971 at the Shakespeare Theater in Stratford, Connecticut.
Young Shakespeare will also contain early live recordings of “Old Man,” “The Needle and the Damage Done,” “A Man Needs a Maid” and “Heart of Gold,” performed more than a year before they were released on Young’s 1972 album Harvest.
Young performed the concert a couple of months after releasing After The Gold Rush. He originally recorded the concert for German TV, but is only being made widely available now.
“Young Shakespeare is a very special event,” Young said in a statement. “[It’s] a more calm performance, without the celebratory atmosphere of Massey Hall, captured live on 16mm. To my fans, I say this is the best ever… one of the most pure-sounding acoustic performances we have in the Archive.”
The concert album will be available in CD, LP and DVD formats. A Deluxe Box Set Edition will also be available, featuring all three formats of the release, along with bonus material.
