He made his name as a contestant on The X Factor, wowing the judges with a rendition of Stevie Wonder’s Superstition, and now Olly Murs is facing a different pressure, as he hosts new talent show Starstruck.
The show is a spin on the old Stars In Their Eyes format – which has a special place in Olly's heart as he once auditioned for the classic show.
Speaking to OK!, Olly laughed as he recalled the fact he once sent in a taped audition, and revealed the star he tried to mimic.
He told us; “I actually sent in an audition tape!
"Years ago, I thought I could do a good Ronan Keating impression. Me and my family did it as a laugh. I really hope they never find the video of that as it was so bad!”
Olly, 37, who lives in Essex with girlfriend Amelia Tank and their dog Missy, is delighted to be the solo host of a big Saturday night entertainment show.
“I’m super excited!” grins the star. “I first had the meetings with ITV, it ticked all the boxes. It’s really next level and I think people are going to be blown away by how amazing the transformations are.
"Although people will say it’s like Stars In Their Eyes, it’s a whole new dynamic. Everything’s fresh and it’s amazing to be a part of it. I was nervous, but once I got out there all those cobwebs came off and I loved it.”
Olly returned to The X Factor to co-host alongside his late friend Caroline Flack in 2015 and returning to host a Saturday night show for ITV has made Olly look back to his previous stint.
“It’s so hard as The X Factor was such a long time ago,” he says. “I think what people forgot at the time was that it wasn’t my full-time job – I wasn’t a presenter.
"But the opportunity came up and I thought, ‘To host the show with Caroline would be so much fun.’ That’s why I did it.
He continued: "With that came mistakes and a bit of rawness. I was a bit of a rough diamond and I didn’t really have the experience of presenting the biggest show on TV. So I learned loads from that.
"You naturally learn from your mistakes. But I like the fact I’m not perfect.
"There’s room to improve, but I’m not trying to be anyone else but me. I was also very fortunate to work with my mate Caroline. She was so incredible to work with. I learned a lot and now it’s a chance for me to do it on my own.”
Starstruck begins on ITV on Saturday 12 February. For more reality TV gossip and celebrity interviews, sign up to OK! newsletters here.
