Peter Kay has finally announced that he will be making his long-awaited return to performing with two new live shows next month.
The Car Share comedian is stepping back into the spotlight as part of a big-hearted charity gesture to fundraise for Laura Nuttall, a 20-year-old who was diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain tumour in 2018.
Peter had previously tried to make a comeback to live performing which was thwarted by the first coronavirus lockdown.
An announcement on Peter's official Twitter account read: "Peter Kay will be performing two very special live Q&A’s in aid of Laura Nuttall at Manchester O2 Apollo on 7th Aug 21. Tickets go on sale on this Friday (30th July) at 9am"
Laura's mum commented: "Still can’t believe this actually happening! So incredibly grateful to Peter for doing this and just cannot wait for August 7th."
Fans also praised Peter for the generous move and welcomed him back, with one person tweeting: "You absolute hero."
Someone else added: "Good to see you back on track .. hope all is well xx"
Peter's fans were concerned when he abruptly cancelled his live tour in 2017, citing "unforeseen family circumstances".
He is known for protecting his family's privacy and so has always kept the details of what happened to himself, but made a brief return in January this year when he joined Cat Deeley for her debut BBC Radio 2 show and there was also a one-off return for Car Share during lockdown.
At the time of his cancelled shows, a statement from Peter read: "Due to unforeseen family circumstances, I deeply regret that I am having to cancel all of my upcoming work projects.
"My sincerest apologies… I’m sure you’ll understand that my family must always come first.
"I’ve always endeavoured to protect my family’s privacy from the media. I hope that the media and the public continue to respect our privacy at this time. Once again, I’m very sorry."
Aside from his live comedy shows, Peter is best known for his work on sitcoms Phoenix Nights, which propelled him to stardom, and Peter Kay's Car Share which sees him playing a sales manager driving his promotions rep, played by Sian Gibson, to and from work while their relationship blossoms over sing-a-longs and gossip.
