Piers Morgan bowled over by iconic Christopher Reeve interview

Believe it or not, snowflake-wary Piers Morgan wants celebrities to be more honest.

The former Good Morning Britain host has made quite the career of, as some may describe it, ‘teling it like it is’ and he wishes the stars of today had the gumption to do the same. Like Christopher Reeve.

This week a 1978 interview the late Superman star gave on David Letterman resurfaced, in which Reeve called out his co-star Marlon Brando (who played his father Jor-El in the iconic film).

Turns out much like Shania Twain, Brando being the Godfather didn’t impress him much (we assume) as he went on to shade the star’s work ethic, seemingly accusing him of phoning it in.

Asked by talk-show host Letterman about whether ‘anything interesting’ came from his working relationship with Brando, Reeve explained: ‘I don’t say this to be vicious but I don’t worship at the altar of Marlon Brando. Because I feel he’s copped out in a certain way.

‘He’s no longer in a leadership position that he could be. He could really be inspiring a whole generation of actors by continuing to work. But what happened is the press loved him whether he was good, bad or indifferent. Where people thought he was this institution no matter what he did. So he doesn’t care anymore.

In 1995, Reeve broke his neck when he was thrown from a horse during an equestrian competition, with the injury paralyzing him from the shoulders down, and he used a wheelchair and ventilator for the rest of his life until his death in 2004 aged 52.
