Piers Morgan refused to let a comment slide about him this evening after he was criticised by a Twitter user. The person in question tagged the 56-year-old in a tweet, writing: “Tonight @piersmorgan will be sat in an executive box cheering England on.
“This is the man that attacked Raheem Sterling and called the players “woke”. History will judge him.”
No stranger to hitting back, the presenter told the Twitter user he had in fact exchanged text messages with the star England player.
In view of his 7.9 million followers, he wrote: “A) I’ll be in the main crowd, not a box.
“B) I never called the players woke & have always supported them taking the knee.
“C) I get on very well with Raheem… in fact we were texting each other last night.
“You’re right about one thing though – I’ll be cheering England on.”
Piers has taken swipes at England’s popular player in the past.
In 2015, the footballer completed his £49million move to Manchester City from Liverpool.
Following this, Piers tweeted: “If Raheem Sterling’s worth £49 million then I’m an Aardvark.”
The England player responded five years later, writing: “Now this is even funnier Piers,” alongside crying with laughter emojis.
Backtracking on his original comment, Piers commented: “Haha, touche!
“I meant you were worth a lot MORE than £49million, Raheem… obviously.”

In 2018, the ex good Morning Britain host feuded with Gary Lineker over Raheem’s controversial tattoo.
Ahead of the World Cup, The Sun printed a picture of Sterling’s gun tattoo on his leg.
Match of the Day host defended Raheem, while Piers wrote: “So you think it’s perfectly OK for an England football star to tattoo a large assault rifle onto his leg just before a World Cup, where it will be seen by billions of people?
“I find THAT pretty weird & sad, regardless of his explanation.”
In a further tweet, the journalist said Raheem’s decision was “naive at best, stupid at worst”.
Addressing the meaning behind his tattoo, the footballer said: “When I was two, my father died from being gunned down to death.
“I made a promise to myself [that] I would never touch a gun in my lifetime.
“I shoot with my right foot, so it has a deeper meaning [and is] still unfinished.”
Tonight, England take on Italy in the Euro 2020 final, which kicks off at 8pm on BBC One.
