Piers Morgan made headlines back in March when he exited Good Morning Britain following his comments about not believing Meghan Markle. Now in an exclusive chat with Express.co.uk, Pimlico Plumbers boss Charlie Mullins called the move “disgusting” as he backed the man who has interviewed him many times.

Charlie, 68, is no stranger to GMB, having been at the receiving end of Piers’ questioning on multiple occasions.

However, despite experiencing his tough questioning style, Charlie has explained how he thinks he’s the best in the business.

In a chat with Express.co.uk, Charlie defended the outspoken presenter, labelling Meghan a “troublemaker”.

Speaking about the move which saw Piers leave ITV, Charlie said: “It’s disgraceful.

“I mean the man’s got it right, he’s prepared to say it as it is.

“Most people have worked that out, she’s a troublemaker, isn’t she?”

The prominent anti-Brexit businessman then added: “It’s absolutely disgraceful that they’ve allowed him to leave.

“I mean you’re probably aware, they’ve lost something like a quarter of a million viewers every morning.

“I don’t even watch the programme now, I’ve got to be honest.

“I’d only watch it because he asked the questions that other people are scared of, and he got the answers they didn’t want to give him.”

Piers came under fire for his opinions after Meghan appeared with her husband Prince Harry in a televised interview with Oprah Winfrey.

During this, the Duchess of Sussex opened up about her own mental health struggles as well as the reasoning behind leaving the Royal Family.

Appearing on GMB the morning after, Piers said he didn’t believe a word she said.

His comments resulted in more than 57,000 complaints to broadcasting regulatory body Ofcom.

In a piece for the Mail on Sunday, Piers explained how ITV had told him to either apologise or leave the show.

He chose the latter and has publicly stood by his opinion in the months after.

Charlie added about the presenter: “She’s wrong. He’s right.

“I think the man’s a national treasure, and as soon as he goes back on the TV, the better – which he obviously will.

“I mean, I’ve been on with him, he’s given me a hard time but he’s never said anything I would say has been discriminating or rude to me or other people.”

He added: “Yes, he’s controversial but I’d rather listen to someone like him than listen to someone that won’t answer or question.”

In the past week, Prince Harry has been opening up again about his exit from the Royal Family.

The Duke of Sussex appeared on Dax Shepherd’s podcast Armchair Expert where he discussed the “pain” of being in the spotlight while in the Royal Family.
