A pregnant Chloe Madeley has shared she’s back in the gym lifting, insisting expectant people can, and should, still work out.
Last week 34-year-old Chloe revealed she and husband James Haskell, 36, were expecting their first baby, with the parents-to-be, as well as grandparents Richard Madeley and Judy Finnegan, clearly over the moon with the sweet news.
And keeping her followers abreast of her pregnancy journey over the weekend, the TV presenter and fitness influencer revealed that a lot of people had been asking whether she was still lifting during her pregnancy, sharing: ‘The answer is yes!’
Chloe – who wasn’t able to work out due to being ‘so unwell’ earlier in the pregnancy – insisted it was ‘perfectly healthy and beneficial’ to continue training, and that you should be able to do what you were doing before you fell pregnant – albeit with some tweaks to your routine.
She wrote on a series of slides: ‘In all honesty, I couldn’t for about 2 months because I was so unwell (very sick and shockingly bad headaches), but gradually I’ve been able to resume my training frequency over the last 2-3 weeks.
‘I’ve had incredibly bad DOMS because I haven’t gone 2 months without training in over 9 years but I like knowing the stimulus has returned and I’m excited to have a new reason to workout. [sic]’

Chloe went on, encouraging any followers feeling self-conscious about being in a gym while pregnant to keep going.
She said: ‘A couple of you have DMd me saying that you feel self-conscious being pregnant in the gym, that people stare at you and you’ve even had some disapproving comments…
‘You are absolutely fine to continue on with what you were doing before you got pregnant.
‘A few things might need to be tweaked (no lying flat on your front or back / no high-intensity work / no progressive overload re strength or fitness etc.), but it is perfectly healthy and beneficial to your pregnancy to continue on with your training.’

She wrote in the caption: ‘Unless you have been told otherwise by your maternity team / you partake in extreme or combat sport* Continuing on with your regular exercise regime (including weight lifting) is BENEFICIAL to your pregnancy, childbirth and post natal recovery.
‘Like ALL exercise at ANY stage of your life, what YOU feel you can and cannot do will be largely subjective and dependant on how YOUR body feels.
‘There are a few considerations (listed in slide 3) to, well, consider 😂 (not necessarily “hard rules”, as such) but rest assured; you are NOT a bad preggo if you’re in the gym with an Olympic bar on your back, much like you were a few months ago. [sic]’
Chloe’s post was met with massive support in the comments, as others chimed in with their own experience training while pregnant.
The official advice from the NHS is that working out during your pregnancy is fine, and even beneficial, as long as you feel comfortable.
Working out when pregnant – what the NHS says
-Don’t lie flat on your back for prolonged periods, particularly after 16 weeks, because the weight of your bump presses on the main blood vessel bringing blood back to your heart and this can make you feel faint.
-Don’t take part in contact sports where there’s a risk of being hit, such as kickboxing, judo or squash.
-Don’t go scuba diving, because the baby has no protection against decompression sickness and gas embolism (gas bubbles in the bloodstream).
-Don’t exercise at heights over 2,500m above sea level until you have acclimatised: this is because you and your baby are at risk of altitude sickness.
Last week Chloe shared the joyful news she was expecting a baby in an Instagram post on Tuesday, in which she told her followers: ‘Little one,’ with a heart emoji.
It has been confirmed they are expecting a baby girl.
Chloe included footage of the baby scan, while also sharing a photo of grandmother-to-be Judy beaming with joy while holding up a pink onesie and photos of the ultrasound. The video also features photos of Chloe’s growing baby bump from week seven to week 12.
Father-to-be James also announced the news with the same video of the scan, and wrote: ‘Chloe and I are so excited to announce we are expecting our first child! 🔥🔥🥰❤️❤️
‘From the moment I saw her and heard her little heartbeat I fell in love! Lets hope she looks like her Mum.’
