Prince Harry reportedly found out about the passing of his grandmother, the Queen, just a few minutes before the rest of the world. According to a report from The Telegraph, King Charles told his youngest son that his grandmother had died “five minutes before Buckingham Palace released the official announcement,” when Harry was mid-air on a flight.
While this has caused some understandable side-eyes, a royal source tells The Telegraph that Harry wasn’t “treated differently” than the rest of the royals.
That said, The Telegraph reports that Harry was told “sometime after” Prince William that his grandmother wasn’t expected to make it, and his aides reportedly “struggled to get a flight.” Harry took off an hour after the Prime Minister was informed of the Queen’s death, and it’s “unclear” why Harry also wasn’t told at this time. Again, Charles reached Harry mid-flight tell him about his grandmother’s death, shortly before he touched down.
Following the Queen’s passing, Harry and Duchess Meghan Markle extended their stay in England and attended Her Majesty’s state funeral on Monday. It’s unclear when they’ll be leaving to fly home to California, where they live with their children Archie and Lilibet.
