Princess Anne gave her brother, King Charles' wife Camilla the "cold shoulder" over the prospect of her one day becoming Queen Consort, it has been claimed.
Camilla, 75, is now the Queen Consort following the death of her mother-in-law, Queen Elizabeth II on 8 September and Camilla's husband Charles' accession to the throne.
Royal biographer Angela Levin has spoken about the "frosty" relationship between the pair in her new biography about the Queen Consort.
In an extract of 'Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall: A Royal Survivor', Levin claims: "Like many people who didn't know Anne well, Camilla found her frosty demeanour difficult and somewhat unnerving to cope with [at first]".
Levin claims that "Anne was, for many years, opposed to the idea of Camilla being granted the title of Queen Consort" – an upsetting possibility that may have shocked the former Duchess of Cornwall.
The new book also claims that the Princess Royal, 71, the only daughter of the late Queen, once claimed that "Camilla will never be a true queen", and that Princess Anne 'kept away' from the Queen Consort 'as much as possible' for years.
Levin says: "Princess Anne reportedly initially gave Camilla the cold shoulder. It was little consolation that the Princess Royal had also had a frosty relationship with Diana, for whom she had no time before she married Charles, and with Sarah, Duchess of York".
Speaking about the relationship between Princess Anne and her sister-in-law, Camilla, Levin goes on: "Her relationship with Camilla was particularly awkward as they had both been involved with Andrew Parker Bowles".
Princess Anne once had a romantic relationship with the former husband of Camilla, Andrew Parker Bowles, a retired army officer.
Due to conflicting religions – him being a Roman Catholic – their marriage was 'out of the question' for the Royal Family.
Princess Anne went on to marry Captain Mark Phillips in 1973, who is the father of her two children, Peter Phillips and Zara Tindall, before their marriage ended in divorce in 1992.
She went on to marry Admiral Sir Timothy James Hamilton Laurence later that year.
Camilla split from Andrew Parker Bowles in 1995 and she later married Charles in 2005.
After 17 years of marriage, the Queen passed away, making Charles King, and Camilla the Queen Consort.
In her biography of the Queen Consort, Levin writes: "For years the Princess Royal kept away from Camilla as much as possible. However, time has proven to be a healer and Anne has seen for herself how hard Camilla has worked for the monarchy and her sense of duty.
"Gradually, she became more amenable".
