Adam Lambert, 40, has been a performing singer since the age of nine, and now boasts a successful solo career, as well as touring with Brian May and Roger Taylor as the lead singer of Queen. The vocalist is now dividing his career even further, and hailed the Queen rockers for all they have taught him on the road.

The Ghost Town singer admitted his career has now come entirely full circle.

In 2009, he skyrocketed to fame on the reality competition show American Idol, where he was a runner-up.

One of the key numbers he performed during the competition was Queen’s 1977 hit We Are The Champions.

In 2012, he joined the iconic British rock band officially, and has toured with them almost every year, taking on the role of the late Freddie Mercury, singing We Are The Champions with the very men who made the song.

As a result of their annual tours, Adam has spent plenty time with the two surviving members of the band, guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor.

Speaking to the San Diego Union Tribune, Adam said that being in the presence of the legendary rockers has become so commonplace to him that it “feels like a family”.

He revealed the 75 and 73-year-olds “get to be forever young” when they perform, and praised them for their “real classy ways” wherever they go.

With decades of experience in touring and performing, the two veterans have also had a fair bit to teach the youngster.

However, Adam also finds himself in a unique position as a professional singer.

Through his work with Queen, he is able to sell out huge arenas and stadiums, while as a solo artist, Adam prefers to perform in intimate theaters.

He’s been carefully balancing these two roles for the past decade, noting he hopes “to keep doing both as long as possible”.

But now, the star is adding another element as he starts work on songs for cinema.

His most recent release, a cover of Mad About The Boy by Dinah Washington, is for the upcoming documentary on the playwright Noël Coward.

In another full circle moment, the star is also working on his first musical, a project which was spurred on by the pandemic and subsequent lockdowns.

Adam revealed the musical is based on a real person and while he’s “guiding” the project, he’s working with a large group of composers, lyricists, producers and collaborators.

The only thing he appears to still be lacking is a script.

Although he declined to reveal just who the musical is based on, he confessed that the person is still alive.

Adam is keeping many other details close to his heart, but shared that it is based in the seventies which is his “favourite decade” from a music perspective.

He gushed: “There’s something about all those genres from that decade, so much great music that was golden. You had all the classic and progressive rock, and funk and soul, and disco, which was amazing.”

Adam originally appeared in musical theatre before making it big in the pop music industry.

In his early twenties, Adam performed in Germany in a production of Hair and joined the first national American tour of Wicked.
