Countdown’s Rachel Riley took to Twitter last night to mark her co-star Nick Hewer’s very last show. The pregnant TV star said it was the “end of an era” as she bid farewell to the 77-year-old host.

Rachel marked the occasion by sharing a picture of the cast online.

The image showed Nick, who joined the show in 2012, holding a gold clock alongside his fellow co-stars.

Susie Dent could be seen waving her arms in the air in the background of the social media snap as well as Countdown producer Damian Eadie.

“Congratulations on a wonderful decade @Nick_Hewer. End of an era! You will be missed,” the 35-year-old wrote online, in view of her 666,500 followers.

While Nick looked smart in a dark suit, the mum-of-one, who is currently expecting her second child with husband Pasha Kovalev, sported a blue patterned ensemble.

She wore her long blonde tresses in soft waves and enhanced her natural beauty with glamorous make-up.

Rachel shared a tweet from Nick along with her post.

He thanked the cast and crew for his gifts and for the well wishes he had received from fans.

“What a surprise to find a big bunch of flowers and a bottle of bubbly at my door today – from the Countdown team – for my last show.

“Thanks a million to a great team and a big thank you to all those who sent their best wishes to me as I begin my search for a pair of slippers,” he wrote online.

Many took to the comments section of the post to share their thoughts.

“That’s a great photo. A golden teapot for Nick, farewell you’ll never be forgotten,” one user wrote.

“Don’t be a stranger, Nick. An occasional visit to Dictionary Corner would be lovely,” another added.

Noticing his colleague in the background, a third person remarked: “Is @susie_dent pretending to be the countdown clock hand – legend [laughing emojis].”

A fourth thanked the host while looking forward to the future: “Nick. You will be missed most definitely. You are the best since Richard [Whiteley] with Carol [Vorderman].

“Don’t worry about Susie and Rachel, they’re brill, they will be fine. Very capable ladies. Take care and thank you. It’s an all girl show now Girls. Go for it.”(sic)

Earlier this year it was announced that TV star Anne Robinson will present the show following Nick’s departure.

The 76-year-old is best known for fronting BBC game show The Weakest Link, which ran from 2000-2012.

She will be the first female host of the long-running quiz show.

Speaking about her appointment during an appearance on Good Morning Britain earlier this week, Nick gave his seal of approval and said: “She’ll be terrific!”
