‘You have a private life, the real-life stuff… and the fantasy stuff’: Rachel Weisz details why she has no social media and is reluctant to talk about her relationship
Rachel Weisz has explained her lack of social media presence and why she has remained so private about her personal life.
The actress, 52, appeared in the latest cover story/feature in NET-A-PORTER’s digital title, PORTER, where she opened up about her reluctance to speak about her family.
Rachel – who is married to James Bond star Daniel Craig – said she chooses to keep her private life quiet, to separate her real life from that of a famous actress.
On her reasoning for not having social media, she said: ‘I’m not very technologically savvy; I would be really c*** at it.’
She added: ‘I suppose, for me, the words “private life” mean just that: that you have a private life, which is the real-life stuff. And then there’s the fantasy stuff.’

Rachel has previously opened up about why her and Daniel are so notoriously tight-lipped about their life together in a 2015 interview with MORE magazine.
She said: ”He’s just too famous. It would be a betrayal. You have to protect your marriage. When you’re young, you tell your girlfriends everything.
‘One of the great pleasures of not being an adolescent is that you don’t have to share everything. When you’re married, that door closes. The audience goes, and you’re in your own life.’
Daniel, 54, and Rachel wed in 2011 – just six months after rumors of their romance first began to circulate.
They each have children from previous relationships, and welcomed a daughter called Grace together in late 2018.
Daniel shares his daughter Ella, 31, with his first wife Fiona Loudon, and Rachel shares son Henry, 16, with her ex Darren Aronofsky.
Elsewhere in the chat, Rachel spoke about what draws her to a role, saying that she seeks out complex characters.
She said: ‘Oftentimes, with roles for women in the past, I’ve found them very oversimplified, and I think that’s changing, which is really good. The thing I’m looking for is complicated characters. It’s interesting, complex writing.’

She will next be seen in new Amazon Prime series Dead Ringers, playing a pair of identical twins.
The six-episode show is a gender-swapped adaptation of director David Cronenberg’s 1988 psychological thriller of the same name, which starred Jeremy Irons as twin gynecologists operating an infertility clinic.
Rachel has revealed she was ‘obsessed’ with the original movie and that it was she who brought the idea of a female-led remake to Amazon.
Amazon first announced the project in August 2020, giving it a straight-to-series order, with production beginning in August 2021.
Set in New York, Rachel plays both Elliot and Beverly Mantle, twins who share everything: drugs, lovers and an unapologetic desire to do whatever it takes.
They team up to push the boundaries of medical ethics -in an effort to challenge antiquated practices and bring women’s health care to the forefront.
The key to the plot is the relationship between them, Rachel explained.
She said: ‘Beverly is altruistic, thoughtful, careful, and kind. She wants to change the way women give birth.
Dual role: She will next be seen in new Amazon Prime series Dead Ringers, playing a pair of identical twins
‘Elliot is very, very different. She’s not altruistic and she’s pushing the boundaries of what’s ethical.’
Dead Ringers is co-produced by Amazon Studios and Annapurna Television, with series creator Alice Birch serving as the series showrunner and executive producer.
The original David Cronenberg film was adapted from the 1977 novel Twins by Bari Wood and Jack Geasland, which was loosely based on the true story of twin gynecologists Stewart and Cyril Marcus.
They were both found dead in July 1975 in separate rooms of Cyril’s Manhattan apartment at just 45 years of age, with Stewart dying of a barbiturate overdose and Cyril suspected of possibly taking his own life in a suicide pact after finding his brother dead.
