Ricky Martin and Jwan Yosef revealed last month that they were calling it quits after six years together, shocking fans across the globe as the pair had long been dubbed a power couple in the entertainment industry.
The pair released a simple statement in early July on Instagram and seemingly left fans with countless unanswered questions as they both appeared to step back from the spotlight.
Now, the 51-year-old hitmaker has broken his silence with an interview with Telemundo in his native Spanish.
According to the translation by Hola!, the Livin’ La Vida Loca singer admitted the divorce was not as quick of a decision as it may have seemed to fans, who hadn’t noticed any signs of discontent in the relationship until last month.
He explained that the split had been in the works since before the Covid-19 pandemic saying: “When the public found out, we had already gone through a grieving process.

“This is not a recent decision. We have been planning this situation for a long time, it’s pre-pandemic.”
The father-of-four assured fans that he still considers his now ex-husband as family, revealing that they are still intent on raising their two children together and are on remarkably good terms.
Ricky highlighted that both he and Jwan always made sure their four-year-old daughter Lucia and three-year-old son Renn never saw them fight as their relationship slowly came to an end.
He also revealed that the actual divorce process had been “much easier” than either he or Jwan expected, quipping: “I even told Jwan we should write a book about how to get divorced properly.”
